Moli Patisserie & Cafe will bake you happy

This Broadbeach newbie is un-bear-ably cute.

Ahhh patisseries – you are an eternal source of deliciousness and we can’t get enough. This is especially true when said patisserie boasts a menu that is totally extra (no average sausage roll or #basic beverages here), and an aesthetic so fresh, clean and cool that we’re green with envy (spoiler alert – the surrounds are green). We’re talking about the brand new Moli Patisserie and Café, Broady’s answer to all your brekkie/brunch/lunch/afternoon tea (more concisely put, everything except dinner) prayers. Cross our hearts and hope to pie.

With Grounded Fitouts in charge of the build, she’s come up a real treat. Think whitewash floorboards, gold accents, a deep sage counter, and a blend of mint, white and deep green seating….and cacti, because nowhere is worth visiting in 2022 unless cacti are involved. There’s also a custom-designed mint green Lamarzocco coffee machine, complete with gold Moli logo and OMG, let’s just take a moment to talk about how cute the design is #LogoGoals.

Now let’s get down to the food and bev because you ‘knead’ to try it all. Feed your eyes to a variety of Asian-style cakes made freshly on-site every day. Think Yuzu Strawberry Tarts, Tiramisu, Chocolate Orange Mousse or the delicated Milktea Mille Crepe. All are expertly crafted by the pastry chef onsite with a new selection everyday. Althought we do hope the cute as a button Bear Mousse with Oreo makes an appearance everyday!

Now what’s go perfectly with your chosen cake? Coffee! Using Leaf & Berry by Seven Miles which is a 100% certified organic blend of coffees grown in the cool climate of Latin America and Papua New Guinea, not only are they mug-nificent, but a sustainable choice too.  Do yourself a flavour and try the signature Iced Moli Bear Coffee (THE most gorgeous caffeine hit you ever did see), or the brew-ti-ful Matcha Strawberry Latte. If tea is more your thing, Moli serves premium brand Tavalon Tea, in their Crimson Punch and Iced Lychee Jasmine. Tea-licious!

If you’re feeling something a little more substantial than just cake, get bready for a taste sensation with a Signature Charcoal Burger. We’re ordering the Soft-Shell Crab coz we’re proper fancy, with crispy deep-fried soft shell crab and scrambled egg with house sauced green salad, served on a charcoal brioche bun and every burger’s bestie, a helping of chips.

They also do a mean sanga – coz who doesn’t love this humble lunch-box filler?! The Ham and Potato Sandwich with ham, egg, potato, cucumber, black pepper and mayo hits the spot, especially when you wash it down with one of their cold-pressed juices.

If you have a sweeter palate, you can’t go past the house-made Pancakes served with maple syrup and ice cream. It’s like a cloud in your mouth and while we may not know what a cloud tastes like, we are going to go ahead and assume it’s like the Moli pancake.

Moli was one of the many amazing GC cafes and restaurants which experienced opening delays thanks to Rona and the ongoing shortage of tradies and materials. But these determined and passionate whisk-takers soldiered on – and better late than never we say!

If you love to wine, dine and shop you’ll love Broadbeach. If you prefer to surf, laze in the sun or strut along beachfront esplanades, you’ll also love Broadbeach. From cult-followed cafes to shiny new eats, boujee bars and shopping boutiques, this burb’s an A-grade entertainer that shines bright in the eyes of locals and visitors alike.

There are many reasons locals – and Gold Coasters far and wide – love a bit of Broady, but here are 15 to get you started.

The Star Gold Coast
If ever there was a reason to call up the babysitter, it’s for a session at The Star. Here, you’re greeted with live music and a melange of premium food options- you won’t need to go anywhere else. Start with a few bevvies at the Atrium Bar before choosing your cuisine for the night. Will it be the fresh Garden Kitchen & Bar or the award-winning Cantonese at Uncle Su’s? Why not taste Tokyo right on the Gold Coast at Kiyomi, authentic Italian eats at Cucina Vivo or the ultimate buffet experience at Harvest Buffet? Or maybe you’re looking for the chic rooftop bar at Nineteen at The Star or a sneaky drink at the new look Veladora?

Dracula’s Cabaret Restaurant
If you’re after a tried and tested, long-standing comedy cabaret, good ‘ole Dracs has been serving up frights, food and frivolity since we were all ankle-biters. Blues on Broadbeach
Unlike our other listings, this one’s not here 24/7. However, it’s that much of a Broady icon that it would be criminal not to throw it a mention. As the name suggests, it brings us world-class blues music and jazz from locals and famous acts alike, performing across multiple venues over four unforgettable days. And it’s free. When does that ever happen?!
Where: Various Broadbeach venues

Elk Espresso
This place has never met an empty table; it’s constantly bulging at the seams with raving fans. Of course, we are one of such fans. Just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach, the coffee is all-time, the menus are seasonal and heavenly, and they do a Boozy Bottomless Brunch. And sold!

The Oasis
It’s an everyday escape for locals, and one of our top shopping centres on the coast (for good reason). The Oasis is home to stunning fashion boutiques, and the number of fabulous eateries at hand is impressive in of itself. In addition to the ones we highlight in this article, we’re talking Mario’s, Madison’s Café and Patisserie, Spice Kitchen and Bar, and The Broadbeach Tavern, to name just a few. It’s a #OneStopShop.
Where: 75 Surf Parade, Broadbeach

Broadbeach Bowls Club
Ahhh, good old lawn bowls. The game that never fails to deliver a good time. If you’re looking for the best way to spend a chill arvo on the GC, it’s with a game of barefoot bowls, brew in hand at Broadbeach Bowls Club. When you’re finished, they have a full bistro menu waiting with big portions of all your go-to pub-grub meals. They also have a canape package perfect for a laid-back birthday or celebration.

No Name Lane
Well, if it isn’t No Name Lane making a name for themselves as Blake Lively’s favourite coffee. In her exact words “”the best coffee of her life”. We can attest to this, alongside the cafe’s cult local following. Not only are they adored for their cuppa, but their all-day breakfasts and gourmet lunches also go down a treat so if you haven’t been, remedy this immediately.

Where: Old Burleigh Road, Broadbeach

CHA CHA Japanese Restaurant
Gold Coasters have been CHA CHA bound for an authentic Japanese nosh-up which won’t break the bank for years, and that’s not about to change any time soon. The banquet menu is divine and every visit you’ll experience the same level of scrumptiousness. But the soy on the dim sum…it’s BYO and it’s hard to find an already affordable yet high-quality restaurant offering our 3 favourite letters. Score.
Where: 2705 Gold Coast Highway, Broadbeach

Pacific Fair, Broadbeach (image supplied)

Pacific Fair
This list wouldn’t be complete without mention of THE queen. Pacific Fair (aka Pac Fair) is any Gold Coasters first point of call when a new ensemble or therapy (retail or other) is required. It has every retailer you could possibly wish for, fabulous food options and indisputably the most gorgeous fit-out you’ve ever seen. Nothing rivals it.
Where: Gold Coast Hwy and Hooker Blvd, Broadbeach

Costa Taco
You bet we did a happy dance when news broke that our fav taqueria from Palm Beach had opened a third location in Broady (the second was Byron). For us, and many (most) Gold Coasters, it was a love at first bite. Costa Taco stole our taste buds with their authentic, flavour-filled eats and there was no turning back. And why would we? You would have to be coco to say no no to coconut margaritas?

The Lamb Shop
In a pita shell, you’re getting bangin bar snacks and succulent souvlaki- what’s not to love? After a long day on Broadbeach beach (presumably), when you’re feeling sun-kissed and salt wrapped, is there anything better than biting into a tangy lamb-filled pita wrap to replenish exerted energy? No! The Lamb Shop’s entire menu is prepared in-house daily, using only fresh local produce, premium cuts and authentic grilling techniques. That’s why we love em!
Where: 1 Oracle Blvd, Broadbeach

The Beach Hotel Broadbeach
There’s no better place to snag a seat and sink a beer (or a Golden Hour Sour) on a Saturday arvy than at the brand new The Beach Hotel in Broadbeach. The airy spaces and indoor-outdoor flow let the sea breeze carry through the beer garden into the public bar. The vibe is set to ‘summer chill’, eats are delish, sips are refreshing and every corner is designed for the perfect gathering with your pals. After some spirited fun, head inside Cora, a restaurant within The Beach Hotel, where fine dining and a laid-back atmosphere come together to deliver palate-pleasing Mediterranean-inspired bites and crisp, cool drinks. Don’t mind if we do.

You’re going to love Hazel Espresso a latte!

Because we all know that breakfast is a serious affair here on the Gold Coast, it’s essential to keep abreast of the newest venues and the freshest concepts, right? Settling for second best isn’t a viable option when there’s such an incredible selection of venues, all with more exciting and taste bud pleasing dishes than you could wave a stick at. And it’s the thought-provoking and left-of-centre menus that sometimes garner the most attention. Because let’s face it, thinking outside the box should be celebrated!

We’ve discovered a cafe that understands this mandate quite well and has taken it upon themselves to shake the status quo and give Gold Coasters an offering a little out of the ordinary. Say hello, to the newly opened Hazel Espresso in Southport.

You’ll come across the warm and welcoming cafe of Hazel Espresso on Southport’s leafy Davenport Street in the heart of China Town. With seating outside, you can relax under dappled sunlight, or you might want to find yourself tucked inside their warm timber-coloured cafe.

Hanoi Egg Coffee & Banh Mi Breakfast Board, Hazel Espresso (Image: © 2021 Inside Gold Coast)
Hanoi Egg Coffee & Banh Mi Breakfast Board, Hazel Espresso (Image: © 2021 Inside Gold Coast)

With Vietnamese heritage, the couple behind this cute space have carefully put together a modern menu that deftly blends Australian favourites with South East Asia fusion. Breakfast dishes are served all day, consisting of dishes like a tantalising Grilled Pork Banh Mi Breakfast Board and a Chilli Crab Scrambled Eggs with flaked pieces of crab meat, lashing of fresh chilli, lime and coriander. A little different, you might think, but for those with an adventurous palate and an admiration for Asian cuisine, you’ll be smitten.

Acai bowl fans will be drawn to the Hazel Acai Bowl, and for good reason, with house-roasted almond granola, a host of fresh fruit and peanut butter or Nutella add ons, it’s likely a no-brainer.

Lunch continues to be a delectable exploration of the orient with sangas and salads, including a Salmon Super Salad with pan-fried salmon, quinoa and edamame.

And for those chasing something a little sweeter, the French Toast Forever is a thick slice of cream cheese-filled French toast with ice cream, mascarpone, berry coulis and fairy floss, which must be tried.

Hazel Espresso exterior (Image: © 2021 Inside Gold Coast)
Hazel Espresso exterior (Image: © 2021 Inside Gold Coast)

For those familiar with Vietnamese style coffee, Hazel Espresso has made it a priority that their caffeine offering is on point. Melbourne roasters ST ALi. provide all of the orthodox espresso-style drinks, whilst traditional and robust tasting pour-over style coffee is available across their special coffee menu. The Hanoi Egg Coffee is undoubtedly the highlight here, as rich coffee is layered with a creamy egg yolk foam on top, and the resulting texture and plush flavour is a true one-off. Rounding out the menu are three house-made teas jam-packed with fresh fruit, lemongrass, mint and a mixture of otherworldly and exotic flavours.

And should you feel like the time has come to enjoy a drink a little stronger, their licensed drinks menu has you covered with all of the usual suspects, including some velvety smooth Flat White Espresso Martinis!

In the new year, the team here has plans to open evening dinner services focusing on desserts and coffee; whilst still featuring their Banh Mis and rice-based dishes. So watch this space!

When: Tuesday – Friday 7am-3pm & Saturday – Sunday 7am-2pm
