Three utterly tea-lightful spring flings

It’s high time to treat yourself at JW Marriott’s Botanica Luxe high tea series.

Judging by the incredible perfume of wattle flowers filling the air of late, spring is in the air. And we are so ready, because with the return of the longer days and warmer weather comes that little extra incentive to get up and really teas the day.

What better way to celebrate the arrival of spring than busting out our favourite frock, gathering the best-teas to gossip and graze the day away on some adorably bite-sized fare (and bubbles, it goes without saying).

One destination we can always trust when it’s high time to treat ourselves to a fancy little gastronomic #springfling, is JW Marriott Gold Coast. Their tantalising high tea spread has been treated to a fresh spring-inspired twist, a three-part culinary journey crafted in collaboration with renowned chef Peter Kuruvita (a name you might know from venues such as Noosa Beach House and Alba by Kuruvita), Dilmah Tea, and JW Marriott’s Gold Coast Executive Chef Paul Smart.

The seasonal Botanica Luxe high tea series was inspired by the spring transformation of the breathtaking JW Marriott resort grounds, with a delectable menu specifically developed to pay homage to the abundant array of herbs, fruits, and edible flowers cultivated on-site in the JW Garden.

Not your ordinary high tea spread, this luxury series features a fresh focus and theme for each event, meaning that each offers its own unique gourmet experience. And at just $99 per guest we certainly would not blame anyone who wishes to go for the whole delicious trifecta.

To complement each culinary journey, there’s a curated selection of unique Dilmah teas, and of course it wouldn’t be high tea without obliging in some bubbles, with a complimentary glass of Laurent-Perrier Champagne for each guest to savour on arrival.

Saturday 12 August
The first soirée kicking off the luxury Botanica Luxe High Tea series is the ‘Fruits of the Garden‘ inspired menu this Saturday, August 12th. Sip back and enjoy a mouthwatering spread of bite-sized delights such as the chargrilled pepper chicken en croute, and it would be shellfish of us to not also mention the melt-in-your-mouth grilled sea scallop with roast Sunshine Coast pineapple in addition to the traditional spread of sweet and savoury canapés JW Marriott’s high tea is renowned for.

Saturday 9 September
The second event in this sumptuous series is the ‘Springtime Florals’ edition High Tea on Saturday 9th September. Surrounded by the tropical sanctuary of JW Marriott’s grounds, guests will indulge in a unique culinary journey of reggiano panna cotta with Avruga caviar, torched caramelized figs and pineapple sage flowers, and we are fully prepared for the love cake, pineapple sage flowers, rose and French vanilla cream to be love at first bite. All perfectly paired with a glass French Champagne and of course JW Marriott’s infamous traditional high tea spread.

Saturday 14 October
This decadent series concludes with the ‘Herbal Discovery’ inspired luxury High Tea on Saturday 14th October. Delight in the finest and freshest produce spring has to offer, with the culinary dream team crafting innovative morsels such as king prawns with a Jasmine green tea dressing and JW Garden herb crusted yellowfin tuna with twice cooked pork belly, for one delicious day only – and if that’s not the ultimate culinary spring fling, we don’t know what is. All topped off by the addition of beautiful French champagne on arrival and three tiers brimming with JW Marriott’s traditional high tea treats.

Reservations to this exclusive high tea series are limited, so run oolong to secure your spot before your chance is scone with the wind.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that true relaxation doesn’t happen by chance, it happens by appointment.

12 of the best Gold Coast buffets

Harvest Buffet, The Star Gold Coast (image supplied)
Harvest Buffet, The Star Gold Coast (image supplied)

The history of buffet style eating is a mixed affair. Its origins could be said to hark back to a mixture of cultures — from Asia to Europe. The ‘smorgasbord’ became internationally known as such at the 1939 New York World’s Fair exhibition, because the Swedes had to invent a new way of showcasing the best of Swedish food to large numbers of visitors. And the rest, as they say, is history…

Whoever can claim to have been responsible, we’re not fussed! The point is buffets — and smorgasbords — are amazing ways to reach newfound eating goals, and we’ve got quite a few exceptional ones right here on the Gold Coast. Happy binge eating, folks!

Terraces Restaurant
It’s the seafood buffet extravaganza in Main Beach that locals keep returning to time and time again, and as one of those locals, we can tell you it’s got all of the very best things you’ll love. Yes, fresh seafood galore but also a whole charcuterie section, an excellent Asian dish section, and so many delicious desserts to choose from. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Harvest Buffet
Not only does Harvest Buffet treat their diners to top-notch eats, but they also allow patrons to feast on glistening poolside views as well. The stunning indoor and outdoor spaces are seriously as enticing as the food, and the private dining room screams “have your birthday/celebration here” and ok, if you insist…Open for breakfast and dinner daily, as well as lunch every Saturday and Sunday so you can get stuck into their famed prawn and oyster buffet, you’ll be sure to leave this place bursting at the seams. We must make special mention of their dinner offering which includes the freshest seafood like oysters, prawns, sushi, roasts from the carvery as well as crowd-pleasers like pizza, pasta, curries, soups and salads. Horizon Sky Dining
Buffet in the sky? No probs. Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise is where you’re find this gem, nestled above the city skyline so you can (literally) take your dining experience to new heights. Think breathtaking views of the city skyline from ocean to hinterland and of course, the most incredible seafood feast curated by award-winning chefs. Skypoint Breakfast Buffet
Not a morning person? Well breakfast up in the clouds might be the closest you’ll get to staying snug in that cosy bed of yours and to be honest, I’d say this brekky is worth the wake up. With all the classics you know and love on offer to build your own big breakfast, seasonal fruits (because, summer) and even cereal if your inner child is begging for coco pops – we won’t judge. Many things may have changed over the years, but the yum factor of Shoreline Restaurant’s famous buffet isn’t one of them #phew. Located in the Sea World Resort, treat yourself to a balanced and plentiful breaky smorgasbord from 6.30am to 10am daily, or all-you-eat-dinner from 5pm to 8pm every Friday and Saturday (no judgement if you do both). And let’s not forget the coastal ambience and live entertainment, satisfying all the senses.

Wake up with an expansive selection of season-inspired breakfast classics at Cove Café’s buffet.  Recently reimagined with a tropic-inspired aesthetic reflecting the natural beauty of Sanctuary Cove, it’s the perfect place to start your day.
