Haven’t heard of a head spa before? Babe, you’ve been sleeping on something seriously amazing.

Thanks to TikTok, the Japanese head spa has us in a chokehold – and for good reason! This isn’t just a wash and blow-dry, oh no. It’s a full-blown scalp experience.

Think deep cleansing, exfoliation, and nourishment that’ll have your follicles thriving and your stress levels plummeting. It’s basically a facial for your scalp, and yes, it’s just as dreamy as it sounds.

If you haven’t hopped on the hype train yet, here are some spots on the Gold Coast to kickstart your new obsession.

Dreamin Head Spa and Sculpture

Dreamin’ of luscious locks? Same, bestie. And lucky for you, we’ve found the ultimate place to make those hair goals a reality. All you have to do is lie back, relax, and let spa owner and hair wizard Takashi work his magic. Dreamin Head Spa is all about personalised treatments, blending Japanese beauty secrets with Indian massage techniques to deep-clean and deeply nourish your scalp. Not only will your hair thank you, but they also do cuts and styles – so don’t be surprised if you walk out looking like a whole new person.

GRO Clinic

If you’re after a more science-backed approach to hair health (aka no fluff, just facts), GRO has your back – and your scalp. As one of Australia and New Zealand’s top hair restoration clinics, these guys know their stuff. Fun fact: a clean and nourished scalp is essential for healthy hair growth. Not-so-fun fact: most of us are out here neglecting our scalps. GRO’s Scalp Deep Wash treatment purifies, balances, and gets your hair follicles thriving. It’s ideal for anyone dealing with mild to moderate hair loss – or for those who just want to give their locks a little extra love.

Summer Elisabeth Day Spa

Summer Elisabeth Day Spa has officially entered the Japanese head spa chat, and we are so here for it. Nestled in the heart of Broadbeach, this luxe spa is serving up the ultimate relaxation experience, where your scalp gets the five-star treatment it truly deserves.

Picture this: a dreamy shampoo scalp exfoliation, a soothing oil massage, and a blissful scalp massage that’ll have you floating into another dimension. But wait, there’s more. Your locks will be lathered in nourishing hair masks for that silky, goddess-like glow. Oh, and did we mention they also offer facial treatments, foot rituals, and full-body massages? LAZU Dry Head Spa

A head spa without water? Yep, you heard that right. No water, no oil – just expert rhythmic techniques to stretch and relieve tension in your scalp and head muscles. Sounds way too good, right? The 70-minute treatment is performed while you’re lying in a reclining chair (because relaxation is a priority, obviously). Unlike acupressure or deep-tissue massages, this method is super gentle but ridiculously effective. Perfect for when you need an instant mental reset – no mess, no stress, just pure, unfiltered chill.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that true relaxation doesn’t happen by chance, it happens by appointment.

And nowhere has mastered the art of unwinding quite like JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa’s spa-rkling new and aptly named, ‘Spa by JW’. Launched last week, this beautifully designed sanctuary is the true embodiment of bliss, and we would expect nothing less from such leaders in luxury.

Complementing the hotel’s $35 million makeover, it’s the secret sauce securing this GC institution’s position as THE destination for all things sleek, sophisticated, and superior. Summonsing locals and visitors alike to enter an in-spa-rational world of tranquillity and unwind amongst the sounds of the hinterland, echoing birds and ocean shoreline, it’s a hard yes from us.

A design collab between the DBI design studio, the building’s OG architects, and high-end interior designers, it’s the Queen Bee of spas. With an effortless yet sophisticated urban aesthetic inspired by the lush surroundings, Spa by JW is a bespoke work of art. It oozes quintessential coastal Queensland beauty with natural materials, texture, lighting, and a chic neutral colour palette. Oh, and a special shout-out must go to the emphasis on curves because a) we’re obsessed, and b) we have them too.

Curated under the expert guidance of Spa by JW Manager, Stacey Leong, we’re talking tailored treatments in six treatment rooms, a signature couple’s room including relaxation lounge, ensuite stone bath and twin showers, traditional saunas, showers, tranquil pods, and an alfresco outdoor garden terrace. Centred around four distinctive benefits; calm, indulge, invigorate, and renew, our list of recommended treatments goes a little something like this….

Firstly, The Kaffir Lime and Ginger Salt Scrub is a must. Including an exfoliating massage made from locally sourced Bunda Ginger paired with Pink Murray River Salt to stimulate blood flow and assist with anti-inflammation, where have you been all our lives?

Next, The Chamomile and Lavender Soak promotes restful sleep and a balanced mind through an immersive chamomile and lavender bath soak experience. And let’s not forget The Native Clay Body Mask to brighten, nourish and refine the texture of your skin, and incite a deep sense of relaxation.

Now because the JW Marriott team don’t do anything by halves, the Spa by JW experience includes access to a locally inspired tea service, wine service, and thoughtfully crafted food menu courtesy of JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa’s Executive Chef extraordinaire, Paul Smart. While we’re talking bougie eats and sips, sign yourself up stat for the wellbeing high tea including lavender scones, cucumber, caviar & crème fraiche, smoked salmon tartine, sesame bark, citrus aioli, tomato and bocconcini tartine, macadamia chocolate brownie, blueberry cake, mango passion slice, chocolate dipped strawberries, native honey seed nut slice, and chocolate rose with hazelnut cream ($79 per person).

The epitome of luxury wellness destinations

Chuan Spa, The Langham Gold Coast (image supplied)
Chuan Spa, The Langham Gold Coast (image supplied)

It was as hotly anticipated as the latest reinvention of the Dior Saddle Bag and we’re pleased as punch to announce that it surpasses all expectations!

Chuan Spa at The Langham, Gold Coast, delivers luxury wellness in spades, with a holistic approach unique to the prestigious global hotel group.

Torchbearers in their space for modern sophistication, timeless glamour, and faultless execution, The Langham Group have stayed on-brand with their newest Chuan Spa.

Offering the same exclusive wellness experience synonymous with the Chuan name, our coastal interpretation of this real-life oasis is guided by the principles of traditional Chinese medicine.

Chuan Spa, The Langham Gold Coast (image supplied)
Chuan Spa, The Langham Gold Coast (image supplied)

Offering a range of treatments to both in-house guests and non-hotel guests, expect to leave this serene sanctuary relaxed, reconnected, and revitalised.

Unlike other spas, Chuan provides tailored, holistic wellness guided by the Five Elements of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. Allow yourself to be nurtured on a journey of self-discovery and indulgence at the hands of highly skilled therapists, who take the time to understand the imbalances and needs of each guest.

Located on the second floor of the boujee hotel, Chuan Spa boasts eight immersive treatment rooms, each one as sleek and sophisticated as the next. There are two couples’ rooms complete with steam shower (#AnniversaryFeels), plus female and male saunas.

There’s also a stunning diamond-shaped magnesium indoor pool with views of the big blue, and anything resembling our favourite rock is a-okay by us.

Chuan Spa, The Langham Gold Coast (image supplied)
Chuan Spa, The Langham Gold Coast (image supplied)

Visually, Chuan is a perfectly refined ten. The bespoke, contemporary design hits all the right style notes incorporating marble, herringbone flooring, curves, and arch-shaped accents. The soft, neutral colour palette is calming yet on-fleek, levelled up by the subtle scent of Chuan signature elements. This multi-sensory experience invites complete tranquillity, contemplation and inspiration, and we are all kinds of relaxed simply describing it.

Now that we’ve set the scene, let’s take a deep dive into the spa menu where you’re faced with a existential crisis; do you choose a facial, massage, scrub, wrap, hand and foot therapy, or beauty treatment, and when in doubt, zen it out we say.

Let’s start with a signature Chuan Harmony Massage designed to stimulate meridian harmony. This unique mind, body and soul experience combines the therapeutic elements of acupressure with various relaxation massage techniques to induce a deep sense of calm. Available in either 1-hour or 1.5-hour durations, umm, is there really any contest here because when it comes to massage #MoreIsAlwaysMore.

Chuan Spa, The Langham Gold Coast (image supplied)

The 2.5-hour Chuan Ritual is another crowd favourite, where guests customise their own luxurious ritual including Chuan Signature Massage, an iKOU Customised Facial, and a choice of three Chuan Extra Retreats.

Personally, we’re on Team Mini Chuan Feet Retreat, because the relentless post stiletto struggle is real.

Or, we could be swayed by the Chuan Tao of Detox with a divine full-body exfoliation to stimulate blood and lymph circulation, a warm mud wrap infused with Elemental oils, acupressure massage to release energy blocks, and iKOU facial to nourish and restore dehydrated skin.

Chuan Spa, The Langham Gold Coast (image supplied)

We should also mention that treatments feature a range of serums, oils and masks from results-driven luxury skincare brand, AMRA Skincare. And fun fact incoming; this is the very first time they have partnered with an Australian wellness spa, yet another feather in Chuan’s very fancy cap.

So Gold Coasters, put the spa-rk back in your step at the esteemed Chuan Spa, the ultimate embodiment of Langham luxury.
