Loot, lols and lip-sync battles

Bingo Loco = big fun and bonkers prizes.

Ahhh, middle age – it brings with it many things, namely responsibility and back pain, and then there’s the recreational limbo we find ourselves faced with – too old for cooked rave caves, not quite the right demographic for frequenting bingo halls on the reg. Enter, Bingo Loco: the slightly bonkers concept of crossing a rave party with the (decidedly less loose) past time of bingo – because not only does that very thing actually exist, but it’s set to descend on The Star Gold Coast for one (whack and wonderful) night only.

You read that right Gold Coasters… Bingo. Rave.

Get ready to raise rave the roof, because the world’s largest – and most lit – bingo rave is swanning into town promising loot, shenanigans and good times galore this Friday 8 December (lit + bingo in the same sentence…. did anyone have that on their bingo card for 2023? Certainly not us).

If you haven’t yet had the pleasure – Bingo Loco has been described as a ‘entertainment phenomenon’ by Lonely Planet, so like many unconventional pairings (shout out pineapple on pizza) clearly this frenetic format is one that just works.

If you’re envisioning an electric, prize-packed evening of lip sync battles, bulk lols, rave royales, complete with certified bangers and confetti flying every which way… BINGO! You’d be smack bang on the money – or, bounty of mystery booty, as the case may be.

The Bingo Loco prize hauls have previously included the likes of a Bali getaway, a bathtub, a car, a three-metre teddy, a bag of rubbish, a lawnmower, and even a boat! So may the odds ever be in your favour, ravers! (Fingers crossed no trash tho, we said adios to our ex already).

One thing you can ‘count’ on, is an epic and unexpected evening that’s definitely not going to resemble your everyday part-ay proceedings. Picture long tables frantically marking off bingo numbers one minute, and the next, you’re met with DJ’s dropping nostalgic bops, intermissions of lip-sync battles and loose dance-offs.

Don’t be making the rave-rookie move of peaking too soon, you’ll need your wits about you as you duke it among your friends (now foes) to be the one to take home the glory of exclaiming those 5 sweet letters (and hopefully some scoring some epic loot in the process).

Our chaperones for the evening, will be hilarious hosts bringing ball calling antics and out and out chaos – while our dank rave dungeon will be none other than The Star Ballroom.

Unleashing its warehouse wonderland alter ego for the occasion – where shiny disco balls (and giant, inflatable bingo balls) converge with confetti cannons, special effects and bass rumbling rave anthems (and a healthy dose of competitive spirit).

To keep your stamina up, you can pre-book delicious bites of wood-fired pizzas, loaded fries, cheese platters and cheeseburger dumplings (unexpected combo, v. on brand) and a limited menu also available on the night. Speaking of strategy, seating is first come, first serve – so no fashionably late entrances to ensure proximity to your crew for the prize-a-palooza proceedings.

So GC, *adds Da Rude, Sandstorm to queue* limber up and get set for sweat to drip down those bingo balls. You’d be loco to miss your one-way ticket to mad fun for $52 pp (+BF). Just be sure to get in ‘B4’ it’s too late. Book your tickets here.

As the unmistakable GC symphony of birdsong and jet skis absolutely *sending it* again fill the air – it’s abundantly clear, spring is in full swing on the GC.

Of all the synonymous sounds that signify the return of warmer weather – the absolute music to our ears that is pop, fizz, followed by a chorus of clinking glasses – may well our absolute favourite #CheersBigEars.

Fortunately for GC fizz fans that share in this same sentiment, The Island, one of Surfer’s finest summertime pozzy’s, is gearing up to bring us Champagne Season – a dreamed-to-life concept we warmly embrace with open arms palms and palates.

In a serious upgrade to one of our very favourite spring past-times, the months of November and December deliver untold ‘sip-portunities’ for champagne lovers to swing by one of our finest rooftop destinations to sip, savour and bask in sun-soaked hangs ‘till our heart’s content.

Among the mix of sip-focused spring/summer soirée’s – a crafted 5-course Champagne Dinner experience to delight fine foodies, along with contenders rife for rooftop revelry – the Rosé, Champagne and Caviar Pop-Up, and the ‘Perfect Pairings’ grazing board option (to quell our champagne and cheese fix any old time we please).

And with November upon us, we officially have so little time, so much to see sip. So, let’s pop the cork on this stellar season of sips at The Island, shall we?

Priority numero ono needs to be checking – followed by immediately clearing – Friday, December 1 in the calendar #canceleverything, because the iconic pairing of champagne and caviar immediately trumps whatever was tentatively scheduled.

Gather the sip squad, get poolside and charge your glass to a blissful evening of rooftop bubbles, revelling at the Rosé, Champagne & Caviar Pop-Up. ‘Sip’ back and savour 4x generous 50ml glasses of premium wines whilst sampling a fine selection of blinis, wood fired bread, dips and a bump of caviar – yes to all of that!

Perhaps the most tantalising part of all, this encounter combines two of our favourite French things for only $45pp + BF (not a typo, we checked). A fact that will no doubt go down an absolute treat (not unlike the sips), so get fizzy booking ASAP Champagne fans.
