Obviously eating is life and the only real issue there could ever be with it, is having to decide on just one dish when you’re out. Sure there are share plates but there never seems to be enough of those either. What’s an ever-hungry gal (or guy) to do?

DEGUSTATIONS that’s what. The definition of which is carefully selected dishes focusing on the sensory aspects of eating and often involving a Chef’s selection of signature dishes. How fancy.

Luckily, we of the Gold Coast have quite the selection of sweet restaurants and this lot have a selection of sweet degustation menus (listed from north to south). Let’s eat!

Fellini Ristorante & Bar
Italian food and winter are a match made in heaven and particularly when that Italian food comes from Fellini Ristorante & Bar. They’ve been on the Gold Coast restaurant scene for many a moon and, like a fine wine, their menu only improves with age. The Winter Degustation comes in two options – seafood and meat and both are $90 per person and an extra $37 for matching wines. Or, you can get a mixed degustation for $120 per person and an extra $47 for matched wines. Hello Tiramisu. Heart eyes.

Seaduction Restaurant + Bar
The team at Seaduction know food. Theirs is a menu based on fresh and seasonal ingredients with simple, clean flavours brought together to create all the most delightful flavours. It simply isn’t enough to taste one dish and so, a degustation is the go. The Winter Tasting Menu boasts dishes like Pork Belly with smoked corn puree and black pudding and is $125 per person and an additional $95 with paired wines. The Plant Based Tasting Menu is vegan friendly and the same price. So very delicious.

Videre
Found right up high at RACV Royal Pines Resort, Videre offers a stunning sensory experience in more ways than one. Not only allowing you 180-degree views of the Gold Coast skyline and ocean beyond, Videre on the 21st floor, is foodie heaven. The Winter Tasting menu is $90 per person and $145 with matching wines and you can sample dishes like Gravlax of Ocean Trout, Fraser Coast Spanner Crab Brik and Winter Citrus Terrine. All of the next-level things. Actually.

Mamasan Kitchen + Bar 
Serving up the perfect blend of modern and traditional Asian cuisine is Mamasan in Broadbeach. It’s a share plate-style situation with many a delicious flavour to try. You can grab yourself a Yin or Yang degustation and each is filled with incredible, must-try dishes. The Yin will set you back $55 per person and comes with dishes like Panko Fried Squid and Wagyu Beef Red Curry (YUM). The Yang is $69 per person and you get a few extra dishes including Spanner Crab Ravioli Dumplings and Sichuan Salted Duck. Count us in.

Ten Japanese
Known as the Omakase Course, meaning “I’ll leave it to you”, Ten’s Degustation is one that you might need to prep for. The premise is that you order the base for the dishes and the Chefs prepare something innovative to surprise and delight your senses. They use seasonal and luxurious ingredients not usually seen on the menu and let us tell you, you’re certain to thoroughly enjoy each and every dish you’re presented with. It’s $250 per person and an entire table must participate (for obvious reasons) so round up the crew for your next very special celebration.

Little Truffle
The Mermaid Beach gem is absolutely adored for their Modern European fare and if you’re yet to sample it, we highly suggest you do so stat. Conveniently, a good way to treat yourself to a variety of dishes is with a degustation and here we are. Little Truffle offers two degustation menus, one regular (from $90 per person) and one vegetarian style (from $80 per person). With dishes like Cauliflower, Parsnip and Truffle Veloutes and Fried Zucchini Flowers filled with Persian feta and pine nuts, you know it’s going to be a mind-blowing affair. You can also wine match from $45 per person.

Hellenika
Ahh Hellenika. Everyone’s fave Greek eatery of course offers a stellar degustation/banquet menu too. As you’d well know, deciding what to sample there can be quite the challenge but luckily you can leave it to the experts. The Banquet Menu is just $65 per person and comes with dips (oh the dips), Southern Calamari, Veal Dolmades and a million other tasty things. The Premium is $75 per person and comes with even more treats including, a fave, the Classic Baked Junee Lamb. Yes please. Some of us are waiting for wines to match please and thank you.

Iku Yakitori Bar
What could be more fun than sampling several cocktails over the course of an evening made by one of the very best in the biz? Very little friends, very little. Such is the experience you can have yourself at Burleigh’s Iku Yakitori Bar, a low-lit, back alley space that we are really very fond of. They recently created a cocktail degustation where you sample seven cocktails made by the man himself, Adam Bastow, while he impresses you with his very vast knowledge. PLUS you get bottomless edamame dip and that stuff is the goods. It’s just $60 per person on a Monday night. BOOK NOW.
