A new Manhattan-inspired bar for Southport.
A new Manhattan-inspired bar for Southport.
If sipping a cocktail in Manhattan has always been a thing you’ve wanted to do but you haven’t yet gotten around to it (same) we have news for you. A new bar is set to open in Southport this Friday night (January 18th) and yes, it is indeed of the Manhattan theme persuasion.
Bar 11 can be found underneath Meriton Suites on Como Cres and, once open, is sure to be the new Sopo drinking hole of choice.
The work of Gold Coaster Richie Dia, Bar 11 is a rustic-style space made up of original railway sleepers, vintage wooden beams and hanging pendant lights to give it a moody, underground NYC vibe. High tables line an exposed brick wall or, should you wish to watch the chefs at work, pull up a stool at the shiny copper bar.
The venue is Mr Dia’s first on the Gold Coast but, a professional Chef by trade, he brings a portfolio of foodie experience from across the world to the local newbie.
Cocktails are, of course, the star of the show and the entire list is filled with creative, signature tipples that are sure to wet your whistle.
The Sticky Date Espresso is a good time with a combination of Absolut Vanilla, Bailey’s, house made coffee and date reduction. Not to mention the Lemon Meringue Martini with Limoncello, vanilla vodka, Cointreau, cloudy apple juice and shaken with sour mix and toasted meringue foam. It’s sweet, sour and smells like heaven.
Last but not least (there are more obviously) is the Early Valentine with Mozart chocolate liqueur, vanilla vodka, Kahlua and Cointreau blended with vanilla bean ice cream, chocolate sauce and fresh rose petals. February’s coming up fast kids, you know where to go.
Food-wise there’s a lunch menu with classics like the Angus Beef Burger, Tomato and Basil Linguini and Grilled Barramundi and Chips, all at great prices.
For dinner there are share plates and mains and there’s something for every taste bud.
To share, go with the Tataki Tuna Steak, Moroccan Pumpkin Flowers and the Wagyu Beef Sliders and if not-sharing is more your thing, there’s Five Spice Pork Belly and the much-loved everywhere Kaarage Chicken.
An Asian Tasting Plate is also a thing and it’s got Asian Bao, Crispy Chicken Dumplings, Prawn Dumplings, and Vegetable Wontons so that’s fun.
Exciting times Southportians, mark this Friday in your calendar and pop your cocktail appreciation pants on, it’s drinking time (still).
