Does anyone else find it absolutely mind boggling that cars race through the streets of our city once a year? The streets guys, where you walk your dog and drive your own car (sadly not at top speed with hundreds of people cheering you on) C R A Z Y.
For that reason alone you should plan to attend this years’ Gold Coast 600 but, for the sake of finishing what we started, here are five more.
1. Broadwater Sounds
It’s a live gig at the Broadwater (shocker) featuring a sweet lineup of some of your fave Aussie acts. Hilltop Hoods, Violent Soho, Montaigne and Dean Lewis will be there to rock your socks off AND, if you’ve bought a ticket to watch the racing on the Saturday, you can watch the gig for FREE. Life ay.
2. Coopers Roll Bar
Firstly, clever name guys, props. Secondly, you can stand at the bar with a beer in your hand and watch the cars race by. Gold. The Roll Bar (haha) is located outside Turn 5 and there’s also live entertainment at various times throughout the weekend if the cars speeding past at a million miles an hour aren’t enough for your adrenaline-starved life.
3. Delta Goodrem and Daryl Braithwaite
‘Straya. Two of your favourite Aussie icons on one unassuming Friday night, this is livin’. These two can be seen at Broadwater Parklands and again, if you’ve got a race day pass you get free access. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to belt our Horses with the big man himself, warm up those vocal chords.
4. On-track entertainment
So. Much. Entertainment. While driving a car around a racetrack that is essentially just a suburban street complete with obstacles and sharp bends is undoubtedly a skill unto itself, there will be more vehicular acrobatics to induce some awe. The ShowTime Freestyle Moto X team will be flipping and somehow defying all gravity odds and the Aussie Bandit (a ute, obviously) will blow flames and pop a few wheel stands. How does one get a job like that?
5. King of Burleigh Hill
Everyone’s favourite place will host the (extremely) action packed street party of the year complete with a billy cart race down said favourite place. It’s an epic combination to rival the likes of fish and chips or bacon and eggs or salt and pepper (you get the drift). Speaking of drifting, hopefully we see some from the 50+ billy carts expected to participate.
No doubt you’re now super excited for all things race car related and GUESS WHAT – we’ve got a sweet prize to give away.
