Pimm’s, Pies and Puddings

In a culinary nod to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II, sophisticated sipping and snacking spot The Brooklyn Wine + Tapas is treating diners to a one-off English-inspired menu on Thursday September 22. From London gins and cups of Pimm’s to fancy pies with peas and refined fish and chips, the popular Varsity Lakes dining spot is bringing locals together to honour the Queen in the most splendid fashion.

The special English tapas offering highlights big, hearty flavours, prepared with that refined Brooklyn flair. The British bites will be served in addition to Brooklyn’s regular new menu (which has been a hit with local diners), while the bar team will be shaking and pouring iconic English cocktails.

This Thursday, every diner (both lunch and dinner sittings) at The Brooklyn will receive a complimentary amuse bouche – a traditional split pea and smoked ham hock soup shot, before choosing from snacks like the Beef and Guinness pie with potato foam and pea puree, and the Scotch Egg with housemade piccalilli.

An all-time English favourite – proper fish and chips – will make a welcome public appearance, with the crispy beer-battered cod served with none other than Heston’s famed triple-cooked chips. The delicious English affair will hit a sweet note with a quintessential dessert – classic Bread and Butter Pudding, served with vanilla bean custard.

The Brooklyn bar team has concocted a fine collection of iconic English cocktails for locals to sip and savour, including the Pimm’s Cup (lemonade, ginger ale, strawberry, mint, cucumber, orange), the Bramble cocktail (dandelion and Burdock gin, lime juice and Chambord) and The Queens Cocktail with London gin and Dubonnet. There will also be various flavoured English gins on pour across the lunch and dinner sittings.

The one-off menu to honour the Queen holds a special place in the heart of Brooklyn’s co-owner Shaun Dunn, who was raised in England, worked as a London Bobby for ten years and was often personally requested to protect the Royal Family, including accompanying Princess Anne whilst attending the Royal College of Music. Shaun will have plenty of royal memories to share with diners!
