Help clean up our beaches and raise money for our Surf life Saving Clubs

Calling all Gold Coastians, young and old…join us as we comb the coastline collecting debris from your local beaches, before kicking back with a hard-earned frothy that supports those who keep us safe in the water.

Before the busyness and heat of summer sets in, we’re taking a few Sundays to clean up the Coast’s beach, and support local surf life-saving clubs.

Connecting each suburb, from Miami, Northcliffe to Palm Beach, Clean Ups will run from 12-2pm, before throwing family friendly After Parties at each beach’s relevant Surf Life Saving Club, from 2 pm onwards.

As a reward for those admirable and thirsty beach scavengers, we’ll be pouring cold, satiating brews, whilst local musos pump cruisey tunes and delicious tucker is served. Tapping a few Karma Kegs and running raffle prizes, each beer sold will help raise funds for the local club. We’ve also got kids entertainment sorted, with face painting and balloon making sessions locked into the event schedule.

So, ignite the pirate, merman or mermaid within you…and spend a Sunday by the sea, giving back to our ocean and its hard-working lifesavers!

Dates & Locations
Sunday 8 October | Miami Surf Club
Sunday 15 October | Northcliffe Surf Club
Sunday 29 October | Palm Beach Surf Club

Life of Brine

Life of Brine is the memoir of Phil Jarratt, one of the world’s best-known chroniclers of surfing culture whose lifelong pursuit of the perfect wave has placed him in the midst of some of the most exciting moments in surfing’s modern history.
Jarratt, who has courted controversy in his long career as a journalist, editor and documentarian, pulls no punches as he rides an exhilarating wave of nostalgia from the sixties up until now, through the heady days of drugs, alcohol and excess in Bali and Biarritz and other exotic locations in between. Filled with debauchery, reflection and insight, this is a book that will be devoured by surfers young and old.

The evening programme will include a floor talk by Phil accompanied by short movie clips. This will be followed by a Q&A session.

A major exhibition Coming into Fashion: A Century of Photography at Condé Nast is coming to the Gold Coast this summer. The exhibition celebrates some of the most iconic images from the past century of fashion as the publisher of Vogue, Vanity Fair and Glamour opens up its photography archive to the public.

Glamorous, provocative, beautiful, accomplished and magical – fashion imagery has always been associated with some of the most famous names in the history of photography. Spanning across the past 100 years, the exhibition includes images by Cecil Beaton, Irving Penn, Helmut Newton and Mario Testino.

Produced by the Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography (based in the United States and Europe) the exhibition also looks at early work by luminaries such as Horst P. Horst, Erwin Blumenfeld, David Bailey, Guy Bourdin, Corinne Day, Deborah Turbeville and Sølve Sundsbø.

The collection of images, selected by photography curator Nathalie Herschdorfer, show the sharp contrast in the first fashion photographs from the early 20th century compared to the modern day.
