SURFACE, the Miami Street Art Festival, makes its return for a fifth year and is now calling on visual artists, from near and far, to come to the Gold Coast for the Winter school holidays to splash the city in colour, from 29 June to 13 July.
SURFACE offers artists the chance to re-imagine our neighbourhood streets and laneways and leave their creative mark on the Gold Coast.
This year’s festival will transform Miami into an open-air gallery by drawing together submissions from hundreds of artists who will be selected to transform blank walls into huge works of mural masterpieces, activate a 5km outdoor art trail spanning 20 suburban blocks, and showcase their creations throughout art and music events.
The SURFACE team have secured over 1500 square meters of wall space for artists to paint their masterpieces during this year’s festival.
“In 2024 we received over 330 submissions from artists from across the globe, which shows how attractive the SURFACE program has quickly become,” SURFACE Festival Director, Natalie Lidgerwood said.
“Public Art events are driving tourism across Australia and it’s great to be able to offer visitors a chance to genuinely connect to our Gold Coast lifestyle by strolling our streets.”
Some of the already secured spaces is the wall behind the Holliday Café on Wave St, Miami, two walls near SNAP Fitness & Elements on the Gold Coast Highway, Burleigh Heads Storage on 17 Gardenia Grove, and along 2088 Gold Coast Highway.
More than 28,000 people enjoyed the open-air gallery that spans across Miami and adjacent suburbs in 2024, with 2025’s festival expected to grow to more than 30,000 people attend.
Surface is a community event initiated by the team at Miami Marketta, supported by City of Gold Coast. The festival is celebrating its 5th year and the start of a multi-year funding partnership with the City Gold Coast.
“This festival has added so much depth and vibrancy to our annual arts and culture calendar. It’s Miami at its best. Congratulations to organisers and artists. Make a date with Surface,” said Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.
SURFACE is now a must-do experience for visitors and our local community, audiences are encouraged to stroll the streets of Miami, discovering both the new and legacy art pieces.
