From north to south, we’ve compiled a list of the very buns you need to wrap your mouth around right now.

Horners of Sorrento
Horner’s was born from a passion for the smell of freshly baked bread and that is something we can get behind. They’ve got many a tasty pastry so we suggest stocking up while you’re there.

Marie Anita’s Gluten Free Health Cafe
Gluten free hot cross buns are a thing if you are of the gluten free persuasion. Marie Anita’s are also vegan, sugar free and made with organic ingredients AND they taste amazing. Unsure how they do that but we will not question, we will just eat. A lot.

Of course the Miami legends are baking up a storm in the hot cross bun department. Paddock Bakery’s famous semi-sourdough goodies are as good as ever – melt-in-your-mouth, served with organic butter and so very delicious. Probably best to pre-order so you don’t miss out.

Okay so the Currumbin legends will be doing a couple of hot cross bun varieties, which is obviously excellent news. There’ll be semi-sourdough buns in chocolate and sultana and we highly recommend a six pack (or so) of each. If you’ve been to Fuel you’ll know everything they produce is pure gold. The hot cross buns are no exception.

Baked at Ancora
Getting baked at Ancora is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Particularly when it involved noughts and crosses hot cross buns (play then eat) fresh out of the oven and best enjoyed overlooking the Tweed River with a picnic blanket and a warm, comforting cuppa. It’s pretty much the perfect time.
Where: 118 Wharf St, Tweed Heads
The crew at Cubby Bakehouse in Chinderah have invented a thing, and it is a thing you are going to want to sample at least 847 times. It’s a hot cross baggie and it’s, well, a cross between a hot cross bun and a baguette and it’s one of the tastiest things you’ve ever eaten.
