SNEAK PEEK: El Camino Cantina

Opening at Robina Town Centre very soon.

Oh Mexican food, how we love you! It doesn’t matter how many Mexican restaurants open on the Gold Coast, we are always frothing to welcome another into the fray.

Who doesn’t love copious amounts of frozen margaritas? Nobody that’s who. Given that a Texas/Mexican trip might be a while away, we are all about getting out to support local venues where we can still throw on a sombrero and yell out a couple of olé’s for a fun time.

So in just a few short weeks, Robina will be home to the newest Tex-Mex restaurant on the GC, El Camino Cantina. There’s been quite a bit of hype in the lead-up to this opening and now we know why.

Opening at 4pm on Wednesday 22nd of July, this opening will coincide with their weekly Wing Wednesday.

What’s Wing Wednesday you ask? How do 10c buffalo chicken wings sound with a drink purchase? That’s right friends… as many 10c wings you can eat! We’ll let you work out the math on that for a minute.

Stepping inside the 280-seat restaurant and bar you’ll be hit with an explosion of colour, neon signage, cacti, crosses and any other Mexican paraphernalia you could possibly think of.

The fun interior vibe brings the vibrancy of Mexico to The Promenade at Robina Town Centre but the fun doesn’t stop there.

The alfresco eating space features zigzagging overhead festoon lights taking the party outside. There simply isn’t a bad seat in the house. We’re big private booth girls, but if you have a larger group, the lower dining tables are fit for your crew!

The large TV’s scattered around the restaurant will keep you toe tapping to the consistent stream of music videos playing, so absolutely no need for small chat.

This particular venue also has a large feature wall boasting a whole-of-wall mural of surfer skeletons by Australian punk music and surf art icon Ben Brown, paying homage to our surf lifestyle.

Okay, enough about the interior vibes, let’s talk about the epic eats and frozen margaritas. The Tex-Mex menu boasts all of your favourites in hearty serves.

Wings served with blue-cheese mayo (three levels of heat available), nachos covered in melted cheese, fresh chargrilled fajitas and 8 types of tacos will all keep your belly happy. A heat index enables the chilli lovers of the world to spice up their dish to appropriate tear jerking temps.

Well it’s certainly going to be thirsty work getting through their menu, but ponder no further and grab one of their signature margaritas. Served shaken or frozen and in five delicious flavours: classic, strawberry, mango, tropical or the limited-edition flavour that changes every month (this sounds like a fun game of roulette).

And what goes well with a sweet frozen margarita? A bottomless baskets of COMPLIMENTARY tortilla chips with vibrant salsas, El Camino Cantina really have thought of it all. Sorry, did you want us to ever leave?

When you eventually do, you’ll probably want to come back for their $2 Tuesday Tacos, oh it never ends.

So for the most Mexicellent time, head to Robina’s new El Camino Cantina from the 22nd of July.

LOCATION: The Promenade, Robina Town Centre, Robina
HOURS: Tuesday-Thursday 4pm-10pm, Friday & Saturday 11.30am-10pm, Sunday 11.30am-7pm

Fiesta vibes and frozen margaritas set to shake up Robina

All things Mexican are okay by us. Tasty, flavour-packed eats, yes please. Big old hats to wear whilst indulging in said tasty, flavour-packed eats, definitely. Bright pops of colour absolutely everything and best of all, margaritas, keep those coming.

Mexi-goodies pretty much equal happiness all round which is why the news of a brand new Tex Mex eatery’s imminent arrival in Robina has us very excited.

It’s called El Camino Cantina and you may have heard of it. The good time venue already has three restaurants in Queensland and our little Robina is set to become home to the fourth.

The legendary venue is known for colour-filled party vibes featuring neon lights, fluorescent signage and plenty of eye-catching little touches dotted throughout. The newbie will take over Robina’s Lord of the Wings site, bringing a 280-seat space to the Mexi-loving people.

The menu is a big one filled with all your favourites including complimentary and unlimited chips with salsas to start, plus a selection of soft-shelled tacos, sizzling fajitas, burritos, quesadillas, buffalo wings, nachos and other classic Tex-Mex dishes. All of those please.

Signature margaritas are served shaken or frozen, and in six tempting flavours: classic, strawberry, mango, tropical Red Bull, a margarita and sangrita fusion, and a limited-edition flavour that changes every month. Beer lovers can sample a range of Australian craft and flagship Mexican draught and bottled cervezas.

Combining a fusion of Tex-Mex flair and urban edge, El Camino Cantina is the perfect place to refuel during a shopping spree, relax for pre-or post-movie drinks, or just enjoy super-chilled, music-filled, sunset-soaked soirees with margaritas.

One of our absolute favourite things to do.

Our very own El Camino Cantina is due to open in early May at Robina Town Centre, so keep your eyes peeled for that fun time.

Dracula’s colourful, new Mexican carnival-inspired show

Exciting news for all you theatre cabaret lovers, Dracula’s Cabaret Restaurant launched their brand new show just a few short weeks ago and the creepy crew are back at it again.

The newbie titled Muertos; which means dead in Spanish and the latest carnival de carnage is set to be a wild celebration that absolutely explodes on the Broadbeach stage.

It’s a tribute to Mexico’s Day of the Dead celebrations, moving at the bone-rattling pace you’ve come to know and love from Australia’s long running dinner slash theatre show.

There’s carnival-inspired acts, death-defying aerial acrobatics, live tunes from the clever crew and of course, the hilarious brand of comedy only Dracula’s can provide.

Muertos is all vibrant colours and hip-gyrating flamenco meshed with high energy Latin dance. Add dancing skeletons, galloping corpses, rocktacular live music, big wigs and lots of bare skin and you’ve got quite the time.

The Mexican theme has crept into every part of the iconic venue, including the menu, wine list and décor. How good.

Delivering the ultimate entertainment and live music experience, the show appears across five stages, as well as mid-air above the audience.

The talented cast lineup features crowd favourite, Coco Inia Dewar, renowned acrobatic adagio duo Lauren Skapalova and Bray Garcia, señorita deliciosas Amber Dawn-Finch and Sarah Douch, backed by the amazing live music talents of Viola Skyes and Tomi Gray.

For the uninitiated, Dracula’s is a world of nocturnal decadence, with mouth-watering dinner treats and tequila laced cocktails – presented by waiters with unrestrained lip-service.

Plus there’s a ghost train ride that’ll get you every time.

Packages start $59 per person for supper club, show only tickets with optional tapas menu, or $95 per person for a succulent three-course dinner and show experience.

Get on it.
