Fly me to the Lune

Cult-croissant bakery LUNE has landed on the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast, your pastry prayers have officially been answered.

One of Australia’s most fave bakeries has opened its doors at Pacific Fair, bringing its famous buttery, flaky creations to our sunny shores for the very first time.

Since opening a tiny shop in Elwood in Melbourne, in 2012, Lune has built a reputation that borders on obsession. People have queued well before the sun is up, happily crossed cities around a croissant run and even planned interstate trips for a taste of its precision-made pastries. Now, Gold Coasters can satisfy their croissant cravings alongside their weekly shop!

The new Pac Fair store marks Lune’s ninth location nationally and its first-ever Gold Coast outpost, with founder Kate Reid admitting the demand from Queensland’s coastal crowd came as a surprise.

“Over the years we have learnt that our interstate visitors can be very loud about wanting a Lune in their city,” Kate says. “We were surprised by the level of demand coming from the Gold Coast.”

And this isn’t just another bakery opening. The new 112-square-metre space is Lune’s most adventurous store yet, designed by Melbourne studio In Addition beneath Pacific Fair’s existing lily pad pavilion.

Blending seamlessly with the Gold Coast’s laid-back lifestyle, the space features a lighter colour palette, outdoor dining and plenty of clever design details to discover, including the iconic Hyperdrive lighting installation floating above the room and a custom mosaic skeleton embedded into the floor.

The mosaic was personally conceived by Kate and inspired by her own travels, creating a little piece of Lune history exclusive to the Gold Coast store.

“Second only to the beach, I think it’s going to be the most photographed thing on the Gold Coast,” Kate says.

Of course, the real star of the show is what’s happening behind the counter. True to Lune’s philosophy, guests can grab a seat at the bar and watch the pastry chefs at work, making the craft behind every croissant part of the experience.

And yes, all the favourites have made the cut. The menu features Lune classics including the traditional croissant, pain au chocolat, almond croissant, lemon-curd cruffin and ham and gruyère croissant, alongside rotating monthly specials.

To celebrate its Gold Coast arrival, Lune has created a limited-edition pastry inspired by sunshine, nostalgia and childhood treats — the Banana Sundae.

Available until Wednesday 5th August, the creation transforms a twice-baked Lune pain au chocolat with banana frangipane, banoffee mousseline and chocolate waffle cone crunch, finished with banana cream, toasted almonds and, naturally, a cherry on top.

Basically, it’s childhood nostalgia dressed up in Lune’s signature pastry perfection.

Whether you’re a long-time Lune devotee or simply someone who believes a good croissant can make any day better, the Gold Coast’s newest pastry destination is ready and waiting.

Just don’t blame us if your quick shop turns into a full pastry haul.

What are two words guaranteed to freeze the scroll of any style-conscious Gold Coaster in their tracks? We’ve played this game before, and the correct answer is always; Pacific. Fair.

Hardly shocking, this iconic GC shopping destination is serving a lineup of fashion and foodie faves that are shaping the season, and we haven’t been this excited since Hailey Bieber, well, did anything really.

Think a new styling lounge, a cult bakery, a homegrown fashion favourite going bricks-and-mortar, and a jewellery icon completely reinventing its boutique identity.

What’s emerging is a season shaped by intention rather than coincidence and a collection of openings that reads like a thoughtfully assembled edit. Each addition sharpens the centre’s identity and it’s safe to say Pac Fair’s current style-cycle-synced moment is positively ‘momenting’. Here’s why.

Pastry people, this one’s for you. Lune Croissanterie is bringing its buttery brilliance to Pacific Fair’s Resort area, marking the cult Melbourne bakery’s first-ever shopping centre location. Expect a coastal-inspired space, outdoor seating, and a dramatic architectural centrepiece that’s destined to become the Coast’s newest “meet me here” landmark. Mimco has reopened its newly transformed boutique on the First Floor near Event Cinemas, and it’s looking every bit the chic icon that it is. The refreshed space blends contemporary design with the brand’s signature creative flair, making it feel more like an uber-stylish friend’s apartment than a traditional store. Expect artwork by Marnie McKnight, sculptural lighting from Angelucci 20th Century, and a feature chair from Bazaa (the studio that treats chairs like wearable art). It’s polished, playful, and perfectly Mimco.

Munchies Sushi brings Brazilian Japanese fusion to Broadbeach.

Kon’nichiwa sushi fans! Or should we say olá? Munchies Sushi has officially landed on the Gold Coast, shaking up the Broadbeach dining scene with its famous Brazilian Japanese fusion eats.

Munchies Sushi began in 2022 when three hospo heros came together with a shared vision of offering something unique to the Aussie food scene.

Fast-forward a few years and Munchies has grown faster than your cocktail cravings on a Friday afternoon. Bondi? Tick. Dee Why? Tick. Alexandria? Tick. And now, they’ve rolled up the coast to Broadbeach.

Behind the expansion is Rodolfo Ricardo Santos de Almeida, a foodie high flyer with more than a decade in the industry and a background that stretches across retail leadership to marketing and social media.

That mix shows up in the brand’s DNA. After 15 years in Australia, Rodolfo has helped grow Munchies from a single Sydney store into a multi-venue brand that it is today.

The Broadbeach location has been two years in the making, a deliberate move into a precinct that balances locals, families and steady tourist foot traffic.

Inside, the venue is cosy and intimate, seating 56 guests including a breezy 12-seat verandah. The aesthetic sits somewhere between Tokyo hidden gem and Rio speakeasy with a Gold Coast glow thrown in for good measure. It’s ready to roll for a casual date night or a post-beach feed.

In the kitchen is Chef Anil Katuwal, who rose through the Munchies ranks at Alexandria before stepping into the head chef role in Broadbeach. His menu leadership brings consistency across locations, but also space for creativity, especially in the Brazilian and Japanese fusion Munchies is known for.

That fusion is key. Brazil has the largest Japanese community outside Japan, and Munchies leans into that cultural crossover. Let’s just say this is sushi that doesn’t play by the usual rules.

The menu is built around familiar flavours with a twist that keeps things interesting. The signatures include Sushi Tacos, Bao Buns, Loaded Rolls, Sashimi, Ramen and Poke Bowls, all with a gentle nod to a Brazilian-style.

Crowd favourites like the Salmon Lovers Combo and the Vegan Lovers Combo are both designed for easy group grazing and include Hosomakis, Uramaki, Gunkan and the popular Hot Rolls.

The Hot Rolls deserve a special mention. Four types of rolls feature on Munchies Sushi’s menu and what makes them so hot right now is the fact that they are deep fried in a tempura batter. The Salmon and Cream Cheese is the best seller, but there’s also a Prawn and Cream Cheese, Salmon and Avo as well as Vegan fried tofu.

The fusion doesn’t stop there. Dessert comes in the form of Biscoff and Nutella Spring Rolls. Drool.

Behind the bar, tap beers flow alongside a compact cocktail list, with Brazil’s national cocktail Lime Caipirinha leading the charge. Made with cachaça, lime, and sugar, it’s a cocktail you’ll be craving when Friday rolls around.

Fancy some warm, gooey, freshly baked cookies the size of your palm and twice the size of your self-control? Clear your schedule and your calorie count, because Brooki Bakehouse is about to officially dough-minate the local sweet treats scene.

The Brisbane-born baking phenomenon with millions of followers and an even bigger fanbase of sweet‑toothed loyalists, has officially chosen Surf Parade as its newest home. Opening Saturday 20 June, the new flagship marks Brooki’s first full-scale Gold Coast store – a moment locals have been manifesting harder than free Ozempic.

Sure, the Pacific Fair kiosk has been keeping the GC cookie‑caffeinated for a while now, and the brand-new Gold Coast Airport kiosk is causing more excitement than duty‑free perfume, but the Broadbeach hub is an all-in sweet tooth’s wonderland. The full Brooki experience. The big bite. The cookie motherlode.

Founder and baking queen Brooke Bellamy was in store all opening weekend, bringing her signature sparkle, energy and “yes, you absolutely deserve another cookie” enthusiasm. With 4 million-plus followers across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, Brooke has become one of Australia’s most recognisable food creators – and now she’s bringing the goods to one of Queensland’s most iconic beachside strips.

Inside the new store, visitors can expect Brooki’s viral sweet treats baked fresh all day long. The New York-Style Cookies are the brand’s crown jewel: thick, chunky, gooey, unapologetically extra and absolutely not designed for sharing.

The best-seller is the Milk Choc-Chip, but the flavour lineup reads like a dessert lover’s fever dream: Carrot Cake, Nutella, Biscoff, Red Velvet, Oreo Cheesecake, Lemon Cheesecake, Double Chocolate and Kinder Bueno. If you’re not already drooling, check your pulse.

And because Brooki doesn’t believe in doing anything by halves, the Brownies are just as outrageous – dense, rich and fudgy in flavours like Choc Fudge, Biscoff, Nutella, M&M and Gluten Free Choc Fudge.

Cupcake fans are also in for a treat, with rotating favourites like Red Velvet topped with cream cheese frosting and red velvet crumbs, Nutella, Oreo, Vanilla with sprinkles and Chocolate with sprinkles.

Cake lovers aren’t left out either, with Brooki’s stunning Naked Cakes stealing the spotlight. These 6-inch beauties are stacked with three generous layers of fresh sponge and glossy buttercream, left intentionally bare so every delicious layer is on show. Flavours include Chocolate Lover’s, Birthday Sprinkles, Strawberry Shortcake, Red Velvet and Carrot Cake – a lineup that could convert even the most savoury‑leaning sceptic.

And for those who like their cakes with a side of nostalgia, Brooki’s Vintage and Custom Cakes (including the viral Vintage Heart Cakes) are available for pickup in-store, with pre-orders recommended for anyone wanting to secure one for their next event, party or sugar‑fuelled celebration of absolutely anything.

Speaking of events, Brooki also offers online ordering and large-scale catering, with everything arriving beautifully boxed and dangerously tempting. Whether it’s a birthday, a boardroom bribe or a breakup recovery kit, Brooki has a baked solution.

Brooke herself says the Gold Coast has been the number one place customers have begged her to open – and now that the Broady flagship is here, the Gold Coast has officially joined the Brooki big leagues. With doors open from 10am to 10pm, seven days a week, your cravings have never had more flexible working hours.
