The Star is teaming up with comedy superstar, Joel Creasey to give local rising LGBTQIA+ stand-up stars their time in the spotlight, by launching a casting call for a Camp Comedy show taking place in early 2023. On Wednesday 3 August, Atrium Bar will be transformed for a one-night-only open-mic experience, inviting amateur comedians from across the country to vie for a place on Joel Creasey’s Camp Comedy line up.
Inspiration for the casting call comes from Creasey’s own experience having found that while diversity and inclusion are slowly becoming the societal norm, tackling for your first gig as a queer person can be daunting.
“To give the scene a fabulous shot of adrenaline, in collaboration with one of our nation’s leaders in entertainment – The Star, I wanted to develop a show that gives a chance (and a microphone) to the comedy voices you may not have heard from before; supporting Australia’s next generation of comedy talent,” said Creasey of the casting call. “Launching in 2023, my Camp Comedy show at The Star will be centred around showcasing the vast diversity of incredibly hilarious talent our nation has to offer. And me.”
To compete for a spot on the tour next year, wannabe stand-ups will be able to take the stage alongside Joel for a five-minute set at Atrium Bar at The Star Gold Coast on Wednesday, 3 August.
Whether you want to test your comedic skills, or simply come in for a laugh, this is a Supercharged night of comedy you won’t want to miss!
