A frothy new brewery and taphouse for Surfers Paradise

Something epic is brewing.

It’s been awhile since we’ve brought you news of something opening on the Gold Coast for obvious reasons, but that is changing as of this very second.

We’re very excited to let you know that a new brewhouse is set to open in Surfers Paradise as of late 2020 and by then, the days filled with eating and drinking across our city that we miss very much, might just be possible once again.

The newbie is called Bobs Beer (the Bobs part stands for best of beer) and it’s set to be a state-of-the-art taproom, brewery and dining room which are right up there with all our favourite things.

You’ll be able to find Bobs on the corner of Elkhorn and Orchid Aves, where the Louis Vuitton store once lived and that’s pretty much the perfect place for what we’re sure will be an absolutely pumping new establishment in the heart of Surfers.

The venue will be of the three-storey variety with both an indoor seating section and a stunning outdoor patio, perfect for people watching. Inside will seat around 52 lucky folks and outside, there’ll be room for 68.

Extremely knowledgeable brewer Ryan Fullerton has made the trip up from Victoria to oversee the project so we know we’re in good hands. His rapsheet includes time spent working for Red Duck Brewery in Ballarat, Bad Shepherd Brewing Co, Melbourne’s Clifton Hill Brewpub. So that’s good news for us.

He’s currently in the process of researching the types of beers we Gold Coasters like best (tough gig), so we can assume there’ll be a good range to choose from, no doubt including a few out-of-the-box options.

In terms of eats, Bobs Beer is said to be offering a slightly fancier menu than your usual pub grub dishes and again, that is something we can get behind.

Now if you’ve ever frequented the site at all in the past, you’ll know it’s a grand position so we’re very excited to see what the team are able to do with it.

Of course, exactly how it all rolls out is dependent on the state of the world, so please friends, keep washing those hands and keeping your distance so we all get to visit this epic newbie sooner rather than later.

Stay tuned for more details when Bobs Beer opens.

Famed local steakhouse Black Angus opens in Surfers Paradise

There are a few Gold Coast restaurants that have stood the test of time and those are the ones you know with absolute certainty are the goods. One such restaurant is Black Angus, a much-loved Gold Coast steakhouse that’s been open for just on 10 years and has recently made the move from Sanctuary Cove to the heart of Surfers Paradise.

Which is very good news if you’re a lover of steak and haven’t found yourself in our northernmost suburbs over the last few years.

The new venue has opened where Hooters (RIP) once lived, next to the Pink Poodle sign and with plenty of undercover parking.

Black Angus 2.0 can be found on a corner block with both indoor and outdoor seating so you can perch outside under an umbrella or inside in a sophisticated dining room surrounded by wine bottle-filled walls, wooden accents and a lovely little fireplace situation, perfect for upcoming winter dinner dates.

As mentioned, steak is the hero of the restaurant and in particular their Hot Rock dish, whereby your choice of meat is brought out slightly seared and you can cook it to perfection yourself on a rock that’s heated to 300 degrees. We sampled the Rib on the Bone and it was easily one of the best pieces of steak we’ve ever tasted.

Of course, there are many varieties to choose from and you can also sizzle some seafood on your rock should steak not be your thing.

If you’d prefer your meal prepared for you, there are starters along the lines of King Salmon Sashimi, Pan Seared Sea Scallops and Grilled WA Octopus and mains like Potato Gnocchi, Squid Ink Linguini and an Ocean Platter for Two (to name a few) to choose from and all are very excellent options.

For dessert, definitely go for the White Chocolate Crème Brulee and perhaps a little Amaretto Sour to finish off the experience.

Speaking of which, there are many a perfectly prepared cocktail to sip or choose from an extensive range of carefully selected wines from all over the world.

There’s a $25 daily lunch special with lots of great options to choose from, as well as a glass of house wine or a tap beer. If you’re more of a two-course fan (same) you can pay $45, Monday to Friday for lunch or dinner, and choose from a slightly bigger menu and get a house wine or beer too. So good.

There you have it, a steakhouse institution now in Surfers Paradise, great news.
