Book your one-way ticket to The Rooftop Lodge at Cali Beach

Imagine sinking cocktails amongst the Swiss Alps or living your best life at a bar in Whistler…but only having to drive ten minutes up the road to Surfers Paradise for it. No, the recent cold snap hasn’t made us delusional, but it has made our excitement snowball for Cali Beach’s stunning transformation into The Rooftop Lodge. Launching on the 24th June with a license to chill, every last inch of our fave summer haunt will be pimped-out winter wonderland style. With snow-brainer headline act Set Mo kicking this off, all we have to say is brrrr-ing it on!

Outlaying over $250k to create this truly spectacular brand-new venue within the existing Cali Beach site, owners Artesian Hospitality certainly don’t do anything by halves. Think hot tubs and falling faux snow, over 60 snow-topped trees, and a massive dome Igloo bar in an Alpine Forest the size of a tennis court. No it’s not April Fools again and yes, this is actually happening in our very own backyard. Oh and spoiler alert; there’s even a purpose-built toboggan slide for entry and mic drop, you just can’t make this stuff up.

Saké Sisters restaurant is being reborn as an Après Ski Lodge, complete with authentic Alpine fit-out and new menu to boot. The Cali shop will metamorphose into a Chalet Bar with firepits and blankets for extra warmth and comfort, and what about the famous cabanas? They’re being converted into luxe Alpine lodges of course, with new facades, firepits and cosy furnishings reminiscent of exclusive style mountain chalets. Perfect for groups of up to 25 peeps (Christmas in July anyone?), and those seeking a little more va va voom from their VIP experience, the lodges can be upgraded to include your own bar staff, bottle service and delectable winter eats. Current mood: VIP and autographs later people.

The Rooftop Lodge will feature a ‘base camp’ but don’t fret ladies, coz nothing even remotely whiffs of a campsite here. On the contrary, we’re talking two functioning hot tubs nestled amongst a snowy forest backdrop and really, this has to be one of the coolest (no pun intended – for once) activations the GC has seen.

Sip on a beverage from the special winter edit cocktail list and eat your way through the restaurants’ thoughtfully crafted winter food menus. We’re feeling a charcuterie board (coz don’t we always?!), fondues, and roasting marshmallows by the fire – because we can. After refuelling, we’ll have a crack at some of the winter-esk games on offer, like shotski where you do shots off a snow ski in sync with your friends, and perhaps a spot of ice hockey. However, we do not advocate you do them in this order because LBR, snow bunnies in moon boots – hmm, not so cute.

And finally, the Cali performers have also pulled out all the stops with specially curated routines and winter costumes to complement the winter transformation and provide show-stopping entertainment throughout the day and evening.

Coz the best things in life are ‘freeze’, there’s no charge to get in (translation: more cocktails) so ‘get frost’ in this must-see Alpine style activation before it melts away…

We know we’re guilty of banging on about it — but seriously how good is our climate for being outside socialising with drinks in hand and living your best life? When you look at the rest of the world, we have it pretty darn good year-round: 300+ days of sunshine and not one snowflake in sight!

So when we hear of impending venues opening that will fully utilise our terrific climate, we get a bit excited. When we see that they will be next level and something the Coast hasn’t ever seen before, our heart skips a beat. And when legendary Gold Coast operators Artesian Hospitality announces they’re opening a mega lifestyle and entertainment rooftop precinct in Surfers Paradise — we swoon hard!

It’s been a long time in the making, but we can now reveal Cali Beach will open to the public from Friday 24th September from 5pm! Yipeee!

Matthew Keegan is the Managing Partner of the group behind this fabulous new venue and excitedly tells us, “Cali Beach marks the start of something special for hospitality and entertainment offerings in Queensland, and Australia in general. But, at Artesian, our mantra is to lead, not follow. Given its scale, Cali Beach was a significant investment for our group, with development taking just under twelve months and costing almost $10 million. it’s a landmark venue for all of Australia that epitomises our commitment to creating unique experiences which exceeded all expectations!”

So what can you expect?

Featuring luxe poolside daybeds, incredible dining and bars, multiple glimmering pools, an outdoor cinema, and even a beach volleyball court for some sun-drenched sweaty action — Cali Beach is going to take daytime socialising on the Gold Coast to an entirely new level.

Stretching over 5000 sq. metres and situated on the corner of Surfers Paradise Blvd and Elkhorn Avenue — four stories above street level — the precinct enjoys a spectacular prospect over Surfers Paradise beach and unparalleled views of the Surfers Paradise skyline. Be it Day or night; it is simply breathtaking!

Prior to opening, Cali Beach will also unveil the roster of the national and international resident DJ’s and artists lined up to perform at the venue. You can expect to see some big names — our lips are sealed, though. If spending a day in one of their poolside cabanas sounds like your idea of heaven (ours too), bookings for these their booths and daybeds are available soon. Well, noon Friday 10th September to be exact. Set a reminder, people!

This fantastic addition to our hospitality scene on the Gold Coast has even attracted the attention of the leading man himself, Mayor Tom Tate. He gleamed, “This is exactly what Surfers Paradise and our city needs. I applaud the team behind this development as it will be a beacon for locals and visitors. I look forward to seeing the evolution of Cali Beach into one of those must-visit destinations year-round.’’

The luxurious and sophisticated precinct will open to the public at 5pm Friday 24th September 2021 before the official grand opening event on Saturday 25th September.

Cali Beach is sure to become Australia’s most prominent open-air destination — it’s official: we are spoilt and we can’t get enough!

An elite Japanese restaurant opens at Cali Beach

With already a staggering 25,000 people through their doors in the first two months of operation, the $10 million development, Cali Beach, has already solidified its place as the Gold Coast’s premier day and night rooftop venue. If the lineup of fabulous live summer music and endless hours spent basking in the sun with a cocktail in hand weren’t already enough, then you’re going to love this news hot off the press. Cali Beach is about to open its brand spanking new signature Japanese restaurant, Saké Sisters.

The venue boasts unadulterated views of Surfers Paradise seascape and will seat 120 guests with ease. The emphasis from the outset was securing an Executive Chef with the skill and knowledge capable of delivering a world-class sensory experience — and luckily for us, they managed to find somebody who fits the bill perfectly. Marcelino Papio Jr brings his extensive culinary expertise to Saké Sisters from some of the best restaurants in the world, including Nobu Sydney, Toko Restaurant in Surry Hills and Zuma Japanese Restaurant in Dubai. With such an impressive resume, Marcelino is zealous to make the venue a much sought-after dining destination.

“I am excited to draw on all my experience to create this very special hand-crafted menu for Saké Sisters. I have utilised Japanese umami flavours, combined with the absolute best fresh produce Queensland and Australia has to offer. The result is a modern Japanese menu that’s uniquely suited to the beautiful beachside location and stunning ocean views”, said Executive Chef Marcelino. “I can’t wait for guests to taste the menu, with my personal favourite dishes being the Kingfish Usuzukuri and the free-range Spatchcock cooked in a signature seven spiced marinade.”

Sounds pretty good to us!

The menu aims to take diners on a whole salivate-inducing journey from lighter style dishes such as Wagyu and Cheese Gyoza to their raw bar with prime made before your eyes sashimi, ceviche and carpaccio featuring fresh Hiromasa Kingfish and Atlantic Salmon. The grill is where substantial flavours come into play with dishes such as the Grilled Pork Cutlets and Japanese Sweet Corn. And tempura fans can rejoice with King Prawns, and Moreton Bay Bugs set to wow your tastebuds.

In addition to a striking food offering, the Saké Sisters cocktail menu incorporates classic Japanese flavours with a wide range of saké, umeshu, Japanese Whisky, yuzu and togarashi in an innovative yet approachable way designed to complement the dining experience. Feel like trying an entirely new type of drink — now’s your chance!

Saké Sisters will officially open for the first time on Friday 3rd December from 5.30pm with bookings highly recommended and a smart casual dress requirement.

10 must-dine Surfers Paradise restaurants

Alfresco Italian Restaurant (Image supplied)

Surfers Paradise is playing a big game in the food department these days and that is just fine by us.

We’ve put together a list of 10 must-dine restaurants around the place if you get through them all, never fear, there’s plenty more to try.

Happy eating.

Alfresco Italian Restaurant
After 11 years as Surfers’ favourite Italian restaurant, it was time for a facelift at Alfresco. The venue has recently completed an extensive reno using recycled timbers, textured walls and mood lighting by Owen Thompson and the team. They have created intimate spaces for a romantic dinner, areas perfect for your next celebration or function and anything in between. The new bar is warm and inviting complete with a new signature cocktail menu inspired by the South of Italy. Early favourites are Tony’s chilli margarita, the long island limocello and the alalfi mule. Of course, they are offering the same amazing pizza, pasta, seafood, weekly specials and friendly hospitality. Open seven nights from 4.30pm. Bookings essential. Takeaway and delivery available.
Where: 2/3 3018 Surfers Paradise Boulevard, Surfers Paradise

Shiraz Persian Restaurant
Open daily for lunch and dinner, Shiraz’ menu consists of authentic Persian style entrees, kebabs, lamb shanks, marinated lamb cutlets, chicken skewers, baklava, tiramisu and much more. Vegetarian options are also available and all dishes are enriched with unique, delicious spices that are unlike anything you’ve ever tasted before. It’s perfect for couples, families and large group bookings with easy access to parking, central location and prompt friendly service. Do yourself a favour and sample it all for yourself, owner Erfan Jalilian looks forward to welcoming you.
Where: 3106 Surfers Paradise Boulevard, Surfers Paradise

The Island Gold Coast
Goldie’s
is the perfect bar and bistro for those wanting the best casual drinking and dining experience on the sunny Gold Coast. With impressive burgers, seafood, steaks, wood oven pizzas and fresh locally-sourced produce, what better way to round out the perfect dining experience than an accompaniment of cocktails, delectable wines and the coldest beers? You can also head on up to The Island Rooftop Bar for beautiful views of the Gold Coast skyline plus a range of delicious cocktails, share platters and more wood-fired pizzas. The perfect spot to spend the day.

Hyde Paradiso interior (Image: © 2019 Inside Gold Coast)

Hyde Paradiso
With 180-degree ocean views and an interior that is absolutely to die for, Hyde Paradiso burst on the Surfers Paradise scene to rave reviews and MANY an excited Insta-loving local. The new weekend breakfast menu offers patrons the chance to have your morning coffee and Bacon & Eggs with a spectacular view of the beach. A revamped lunch and dinner menu features tasty dishes too like the Cape Grim ribeye steak, Sea barrumundi and Grilled Portugese chicken, washed down of course, by a stunning (and delicious) cocktail or two. Perfection.
Where: Peppers Soul Surfers Paradise, Level 2, 8 The Esplanade, Surfers Paradise

White Rhino
One of the newer venues on the block, White Rhino is a spacious, double-storey venue bringing all your Jumanji dreams to life. The menu offers both fine and casual styles of dining (turning into a pumping bar later in the evening) and it is all of exceptional quality. Think pasta dishes, plenty of high quality seafood, pizzas, dishes from the grill and a Slow Cook Beef Ragu that’ll absolutely melt-in-your-mouth. The cocktails are a good time too with one in particular a bit of a show-stopper – Beauty & the Beast. Trust us, order it. White Rhino is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner so plenty of time to try everything.
Where: 55 Cavill Avenue, Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise Beer Garden
Always a good time with cold beer, tasty eats and live music, Surfers Paradise Beer Garden can be found in the heart of Surfers Paradise. Recently undergoing a multi-million dollar transformation the interior has changed from an entirely indoor area to a sunlit courtyard complete with bench-style seating. The menu is large and filled with goodness which is, of course, our favourite kind of menu. Think eats like share-style seafood and antipasto platters, small plates to share along the lines of Blue Corn Nachos, Pulled Pork Sliders, BBQ Pork Ribs and Southern Fried Chicken. Make sure to grab a spot along the balcony to take in the bustling Cavill Avenue below.

La Diosa Mexicana
La Diosa Mexicana
is the perfect addition to the Circle on Cavill precinct and if you’re a fan of high quality, flavour-filled feasts, you’re in for a treat. The entire menu is a dream come true if you ask us, filled with all your favourites including Tostadas, Enchiladas, Quesadillas, Nachos and, of course, the beloved Burrito. We recommend starting with a share plate or two, the Grilled Mexican street corn with coriander crema, paprika, queso and lime because they are the absolute goods and the Albondigas is meat balls with house beans and queso fresco. Flavour sensations. Order yourself a margarita and you’ve got yourself a time.
Where: Shop 11, Circle on Cavill, 3184 Surfers Paradise Boulevard, Surfers Paradise

Seascape Restaurant + Bar
If beautifully prepared seafood, tasty beverages and a stunning view are for you, Seascape Restaurant + Bar is the place to be. Specialising in the freshest of seafood, it’s hard to go past the shellfish cold platter with oysters, prawns, Moreton Bay bugs and Harvey Bay scallops and the soft shell crab tempura with a glass of crisp white wine. If seafood isn’t your thing, try the Braised Pork Belly or Cape Grim Sirloin Steak and gaze out over the ocean, thinking about how lucky you are.
Where: Level 1 & 2, Soul Boardwalk, The Esplanade, Surfers Paradise

Yamagen Japanese Izakaya
Oh Japanese food how you have our hearts. Yamagen is the goods guys and if you haven’t been, bump it up to the top of your list. Featuring traditional Japanese food overseen by Executive Chef Adam Lane with a modern twist, you can devour everything from sashimi to skewers AND watch it all being prepared before your eyes. Wash it down with some Japanese whisky and life made.
Where: QT Gold Coast, 7 Staghorn Avenue, Surfers Paradise

Black Angus
If a perfectly cooked, high-quality steak is what you’re after, look no further than Black Angus. Having moved to Surfers Paradise earlier in the year with a very loyal fanbase already in place, the Black Angus team have continued to deliver their exceptional dishes. We’re big fans of the Hot Rock dish which is your choice of meat brought out slightly seared and you can cook it to perfection yourself on a rock that’s heated to 300 degrees. So good.
