The Hearth Café & Providore serves up comfort food and community vibes.
Once upon a time, the hearth was the heart of the home, a place where families gathered around the fire for cooking, connection and conversation (you know, before screen time took over dinner time). Fast forward a few centuries and a charming new cafe in Mudgeeraba has now opened to be the hearth of the community.
The Hearth Café & Providore, nestled in the heart of Mudgeeraba, is the long-held dream of Mikka Richter, a local mum of three, lifelong food lover and passionate believer in the magic of community.
“I have driven past this location so many times and wished someone would do something wonderful with it.” said Mikka.
Her dream turned into a reality when a serendipitous conversation in August last year led her to getting the keys to the space in April. “The Hearth has been a true labour of love.”
From the moment you step inside, The Hearth feels like a warm embrace. Designed by Mikka and Amey Rosenthal from Rosenthal Creative, the interiors blend European bistro charm inside with a laidback Australian farmhouse feel outside, with reclaimed furniture, flower beds and herb gardens surrounding. Add in the all-weather indoor-outdoor dining, ample parking and a fenced lawn where kids can play freely, it’s clear that this is more of a community hub than just a café.
First you might just swing by in-between the school run and everyday errands for a takeaway coffee and a flaky, buttery croissant from Well Bread and Pastry. We all know their pastries have a way of turning a quick stop into a moment worth savouring, and Allpress coffee is served just the way you love it, along with Ohayo Matcha and Mayde Organic Teas.
By your next visit, you’ll likely find yourself browsing the shelves and fridges, filling your basket with pantry staples that make everyday cooking feel a little more special. The Hearth is fully stocked with pasture-raised meats, organic eggs and small-batch goodies that are as wholesome as they are delicious.
By the third time, you’re not just popping in, you’re pulling up a chair for a home-cooked meal and a conversation.
Behind the scenes, Mikka’s mother, a former chef, is back in the kitchen, lovingly preparing dishes that are both nourishing and nostalgic. Mikka said, “Right now, it’s a true Nonna’s kitchen.”
Locals are already claiming their favourites. The sourdough crumpet with honey macadamia butter is a hit with both kids and grown-ups.
Nanny’s zucchini slice, served with smoky tomato relish, is a nostalgic homemade classic that is straight from Mikka’s family recipe book.
For those after something heartier, the breakfast bun is quickly becoming a go-to, stacked with egg, free-range bacon, house-made rosti, cheddar cheese, herby mayo, tomato relish and rocket.
A full menu is on the horizon, including slow-cooked winter warmers, specialty deli sandwiches and Friday and Saturday night wine nights, with help from a local sommelier. Before long, you won’t just be visiting, you’ll feel right at home.
