A new chapter for a Cantonese classic

T’ang Court is back with a bold menu and five-star flavour firepower.

If your winter eating habits have recently consisted of couch noodles, regrettable Uber Eats choices, and three-day slow-cooker leftovers, it might be time to upgrade your tastebuds to the nth degree. And by ‘nth’, we mean the ultimate ‘n’om-worthy.

This icon needs no introduction, but we’re talking about T’ang Court at The Langham Gold Coast. A multi-award winner that embraces the essence of Cantonese cuisine, it’s now serving up a bold new menu that blends traditional Southern Chinese roots with premium local produce and regional influences, thanks to the culinary genius of Chef Zephyr Yip.

As always, T’ang Court is dishing out a glorious menu with a winter-special reboot that’s equal parts tradition, innovation, and absolute flavour firepower. For a limited time, you can experience the Chef’s Classic Tasting Menu – a six-course banquet for just $95 per person (usually $125). Cue local (and tourist!) fine eats fan hysteria.

If you know anything about this Cantonese cuisine juggernaut, you’ll know this is a steal, delivering the kind of foodie finesse that makes your fave local Chinese restaurant feel like a poor cousin. Disclaimer: we love a good local Chinese joint, but this place hits different every night of the week, well, Thursday to Monday, to be precise.

At the helm is Chef Zephyr Yip, a gastronomic guru bringing over 20 years of culinary kung fu to the kitchen. With everything from handcrafted dim sum to show-stopping Chinese barbecue and wok-tossed wonders, he’s basically the Bruce Lee of flavour.

Chef Yip’s mission is to honour T’ang Court’s deeply rooted Cantonese heritage while giving it a fresh, innovative, and local twist. Think sophisticated flavours, meticulously plated dishes, and produce so premium it might ask you to call it sir. And you’ll oblige.

While some signature favourites like the iconic Aged Peking Duck and Live Seafood Selections are staying put on the much-loved menu, there are plenty of shiny new additions making their debut.

For example, the dedicated Cantonese Barbeque section is bound to turn even the most devoted tofu-lover into a BBQ believer, or the much-requested return of the Dim Sum menu. Plus, salivate over regionally inspired stunners like Pork Xiao Long Bao that burst with joy (and soup – how good is soup), and Marinated Pearl Meat that tastes as luxurious as it sounds.

The ambience is equally showstopping, located in The Langham – a.k.a. the Gold Coast’s official HQ for all-things-elegant, with a dining room oozing luxe and complete serenity. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, trying to impress a date who appreciates world-class food (spoiler alert – they’ll be impressed), or just wanting to feel a little posh, this is THE place.

And of course, if you’d rather freestyle and venture outside a set menu, you can still do that!

Your chopsticks – and your five-star-foodie self (or date….) – are waiting.

Get ready to don those designer shades, your fanciest parfum (eau de toilette just won’t cut it) and Sunday best outfit because folks; because a swanky and uber-sophisticated 5-star hotel is opening on Thursday 23rd June. Overlooking the breathtaking beaches of the GC, the hotly anticipated unveiling of The Langham will redefine luxury as we know it. Bringing a wave of unprecedented posh to our ‘hood, we’re more pumped than a Kardashian at a Met Gala.

Brought to us by visionary luxe-perts, The Langham Hospitality Group, their newest Australian offering boasts sophisticated grandeur for days. The 339-room lavish hotel is the tallest of the three eye-catching Jewel Residences towers (also managed by Langham and sharing the launch day limelight on 23rd June), standing loud and proud between Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. And stop the press, because there’s a fun fact incoming… It’s the first development with direct beachfront access to be built on the GC in more than three decades. We reckon that deserves a nod and if we weren’t sold on a staycation here before (we were), we sure as heck are now!

But, that’s not even the highest high-brow offering because drumroll please, every single person who stays at this Rolls Royce of resorts will be privy to the signature Langham Service Stylist. Tasked with making every guest feel like a highflyer, their job description includes anticipating needs, gift prepping, managing all stay-related bookings and reservations, and providing recommendations on just about anything. Umm, can we borrow one for everyday life please and thank you?!

The luxury experience doesn’t stop there, with fancy-pants facilities including a pool bar (our love language) and a range of exquisite food and beverage venues. These include Palm Court, home to the world’s first-afternoon tea in a Grand Hotel and celebrated with the famous Langham Afternoon Tea, 26 & Sunny (best.name.ever) and the all-day dining goodness of Akoya.

The foodie-friendliness is set to continue with the addition of T’ang Court – sister venue to the internationally renowned Michelin-starred restaurants – pencilled for Spring. Also on the must-visit hitlist later in the year is The Langham’s open-air bar Coral Moon, and for a bit of R&R, Chuan Spa. Harnessing a holistic wellness concept born from the ancient healing philosophies of Traditional Chinese Medicine, we’re always here for anything pro-pamper.

A wine-paired Cantonese fine dining experience like no other

Let’s set the scene. There we were, pondering which restaurant we were vibing for an extra special culinary experience. We’re not just talking about a sorta-kinda-nice place here, but somewhere exceptional where the dishes, drinks, service, fit out, and ambience are all a perfect ten. A unicorn of sorts, preferably with a recently awarded chef’s hat, bespoke wine pairing option, and a central location so we don’t have to spend this quarter’s energy bill equivalent for an Uber.

Cue the lightbulb moment where all our prayers were answered with two glorious words….T’ang Court, closely followed by another two words (of course!). I mean were else delivers all of the above in spades, and bonus – isn’t just conveniently situated in Surfers Paradise, but the home of luxe, The Langham Gold Coast #fancy. Yes, this is indeed the elusive unicorn we were seeking – complete with a ritzy gold (traditional Cantonese-inspired) horn. Whilst this may be a girl-mum inspired metaphor, the esteemed T’ang Court is shaped by China’s culturally rich golden age, and is the destination for high end Southern Chinese fine dining.

Upon arrival at this sophisticated 76-seat indoor venue, we’re once again dazzled by its blend of modern meets traditional luxury accents, stunning furnishings, exclusive art pieces by Australian-Chinese artist, Lindi Li, and its legacy of Michelin-star sister restaurants. Not to be outshone by its superstar Asia-based siblings, our T’ang Court was awarded an Australian Good Food Guide Chef Hat for 2023. With this in mind, we decided to go all-in and order the Chef’s Premium Set Menu with the in-house Sommelier’s wine matching. This turned out to be a “you chose wisely” move, as our every culinary and wine-pairing fantasy came to fruition, all at once, filling our cup…and our plate…with the B.O.T.A (Best.Of.Them.All) of sips and locally sourced produce.

First up, the special appetizers ensured we were off to a five-star-start. Treated to Marinated Cherry Tomatoes in dried salted plum syrup, Marinated Australian baby Green Lip Abalone, and Cantonese-Style BBQ Pork, the latter certainly gave the “get some pork on your fork” movement the ultimate gastronomic glow-up.

Next, we savored the delightful flavours of the Authentic Fish Maw Soup with shredded chicken, Wok-Fried Southern Rock Lobster, ginger, spring onion and E-Fu noodle, plus the Stir-Fried Wagyu Beef with black garlic. Just when we thought we’d hit the pinnacle of foody perfection, out came the Steamed Coral Trout with superior soya sauce and Black Truffle Fried Rice with assorted vegetables, further confirming we made the right decision with this exquisite menu.

And last but by no means least, the final dish arrived in the form of Chilled Mango Sago Cream with grapefruit, an impeccable juxtaposition of sweet and savory. A decadent yet refreshing way to complete our T’ang Court experience, all in all we were equal parts satisfied and wowed by this exciting menu. Special mention must go out to the different wines accompanying each course, genuinely enhancing the dining experience and complementing the authentic Cantonese fare.

So did we make the right call for our extra-special night out and the response is unanimous. Darn straight we did, so if you’re looking for a lunch or dinner to woo even the most discerning palette, T’ang Court is the place for you.
