We won’t lie, the Lagoon Beach Club is a highlight of our annual Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show visit. It’s really the ultimate way to experience the event. We may have come for the boats, but we’re staying for the party. Perched beside the stunning lagoon pool at the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort, it’s where the day-drinking elite gather to lounge, mingle, and sip Veuve Clicquot like it’s going out of style (don’t worry, it’s not). The ticketed event gets you all-day access to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, a full grazing menu served all day, cold drinks on tap, live entertainment with DJs turning up the vibes, and a sea of sun lounges with your name on them. It’s a must!

This year, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show has taken it up a notch. Enter the brand-new pop-up Veuve Clicquot Sun Club, where sun, style and free-flowing champagne meet. Yes, it’s as fancy as it sounds. You’ll be sipping Yellow Label, RICH and RICH Rosé served on ice from morning till late afternoon with a s.t.u.n.n.i.n.g view. And don’t even get us started on the people-watching. Between the boat buyers, the sun-kissed resort crowd, and the casually cool corporate set locking in deals over rosé, there’s no better place to park yourself and soak it all in.

That ‘weekend escape’ feeling is closer than you think!

Who else is craving long brunches, waterside strolls, a leisurely wander through laneway boutiques and bubbles in their orange juice? May our appetites be our only gauge of time, and the decision between still or sparkling water be our only exertion of mental energy.

Sounds like a weekend away, but what if we told you you can capture that ‘weekend away’ feeling a little closer to home? It’s called Sanctuary Cove for a reason, and we’ve compiled the perfect itinerary…

Sanctuary Cove (image supplied)
Sanctuary Cove (image supplied)

With an atmosphere as idyllic as the location itself, Sanctuary Cove offers sensational experiences for visitors and locals alike. To your right, waterfront dining, from casual eats to indulgent a la carte menus. To your left, boutique shopping and state-of-the-art beauticians to ensure you look and feel your best.

This haven’s everyday tranquillity is pure bliss, but this cove can really turn it on when it’s called for, staging for spectacular events like the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, and more.

Needless to say, it’s a versatile slice of paradise we should dive into!

Make your first reservation of the day a faithful one with breakfast at Bistro 19. Known for having “the best coffee in the Cove”, it would be a crime not to begin here. If it’s sustenance that you seek, you’re in the right place. If a refreshing smoothie bowl topped with crunchy granola is what you’re craving, head straight to Pier B Wholefood Cafe & Smoothie Bar.

Golf at Sanctuary Cove (image supplied)

For our first act, we’re choosing our own adventure. Swing into your weekend with nine holes at one of Australia’s top 50 ranked golf courses, or set foot along the marina jetty to check out the nation’s home of the superyachts. If pampering’s more your speed you best head towards Vault Skin Lab.

You’ll find a sanctuary of your own with skin complexion-enhancing facials, brow shaping and classic Swedish massages. We’re doing the maths, and nine golf holes take two hours. So, too, does The Ultimate Vault Package, inclusive of a full body scrub, massage and facial. How incredibly convenient.

With our appetites officially restored, will it be the sun-soaked Cove Tavern for a top-notch pub feed or Red Steakhouse for a premium, modern Australian experience?

For something more casual, yet equally delicious drop into Native Harvest for a feast with an Aussie twist. If you’ve got kiddies in tow, or yearn for some post-meal sweetness (who doesn’t?), a scoop from artisan-grade Rose Gelateria for dessert is non-negotiable.

Let’s walk off that scrumptious lunch with some retail therapy, shall we? The Marina Village is a treasure trove for grown-ups! Find bespoke clothing, homewares, and gift boutiques ready for exploration.

If your summer wardrobe needs a spruce-up, check out Soho Girl for Paradiso midis and maxis, or find Calypso Resort & Swimwear for brands like Seafolly, Sunflair, and Jets. For the men, visit Latitude Men’s Collection for specialised European clothing, shoes, and styling.

Shopping is hungry (and thirsty) work. We hear a sunset aperitivo calling. As you are well and truly in holiday mode, the Mediterranean-inspired Destino Wine & Cocktail Bar will be fitting. With live DJs spinning every Friday and Saturday night and an epic cocktail menu, this spot is a must-visit for watching the sunset and capping off a day well spent. Follow that up with a banquet fit for an emperor at Dragon Cove Chinese Restaurant, or carb load on authentic Napoli eats at Ioesco.

Unveiling the GC’s $2.5m Lagoon Beach Club

Lagoon Beach Club, InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort (image supplied)
Lagoon Beach Club, InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort (image supplied)

The Northern Gold Coast officially has a brand-new chic Lagoon Beach Club now open at InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort, Sanctuary Cove.

This $2.5 million masterpiece is the first of its kind on the GC, set to elevate its already iconic surrounds to unparalleled heights of coastal indulgence and style.

Lagoon Beach Club, InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort (image supplied)
Lagoon Beach Club, InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort (image supplied)

The epitome of chillaxation, get ready to bask in the breathtaking view of the resort’s stunning one-acre Lagoon Beach Pool where laid-back leisure, contemporary design, and summer fun collide. After four months of extensive renovations, you can safely cancel your Euro summer vacay, because the Euro vacay (with a quintessential GC glow up) has come to us!

Best of all, it’s not just for InterContinental guests or Sanctuary Cove residents, it’s for everyone to enjoy – and enjoy we will! Perfect for a balmy GC arvo with friends or a taste of the good life with the fam in tow, it has people talking for all the right reasons from laid-back locals to vibrance-seeking visitors.

Food at Lagoon Beach Club, InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort (image supplied)

So just what can we expect from this game-changing summery stunner? An expansive deck for events and dining – check. Direct access from the marina to the resort – double check. Three cabanas and double day beds for ultimate relaxation? Yes, they’ve got that covered too.

Watch the day unfold from under the comfort of a pool deck umbrella or the shade of a nearby palm tree, and it would be remiss of us not to mention the fresh new menu offering seafood galore, share plates, gourmet pizzas, and casual poolside fare. Wash your meal down with an extensive drinks selection showcasing a tropical holiday in a glass, including expertly crafted cocktails, wines, beers, spirits, mocktails and other non-alcoholic drinks (because someone has to drive).

We suggest a Bucket of Whole Mooloolaba Prawns accompanied by a zesty seafood sauce and fresh lemon #ShrimplyDelicious. Not a seafood fan? No worries, how about a sharing platter and we can’t go past the Fromage Extravaganza with Kingfisher double cream brie, Maffra matured cheddar and King Island blue, paired with homemade lavosh, muscatels, chutney, dried fruits, and crackers.

Tacos, Lagoon Beach Club, InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort (image supplied)
Tacos, Lagoon Beach Club, InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort (image supplied)

If you’re after a small bite, tuck into Smokey Pulled Pork Soft Shell Tacos, three tantalizing tacos with slaw, guacamole, and sriracha mayo. There are also refreshing salads, larger meals, sides, a kid’s menu, and as per our teaser, five gastronomically gratifying pizzas. Try them all but in our humble opinion, you ‘knead’ to order the Spicy Chorizo and Wood-fired Capsicum with black olives, ricotta and spinach.

Chilli Sunset house cocktail, Lagoon Beach Club, InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort (image supplied)

Our beverage vote goes to the Chilli Sunset house cocktail, with White Oat mango chilli gin (#supportlocal), Aperol, pineapple juice, and passionfruit pulp. Feel like sharing and if so, who can go past a Pimms Jug (not us), with Pimm’s, strawberries, mint, lime, lemon, orange, and ginger ale.

How about a healthy helping of live tunes and yes, InterContinental has that covered. Live music, DJ sessions, and even some Malfy Gin magic are all part of the plan to woo us, and mission accomplished – we are officially wooed.

And here’s the kicker – if you’d like to enjoy the lagoon pool and fabulous facilities, you can purchase a Resort Pass for just $30 per person (limited availability so book ahead). Summer hangs sorted!
