Labrador, say hello to Sandy’s Burger, Pizza & Pasta.

It’s around this time of year when leaving the house becomes just that little bit harder, unless, of course, it’s to hunt down something hot, cheesy and delicious. Priorities, right?

If you’ve been searching for the triumvirate of comfort food, it’s time to put on your stretchy pants (or keep them on). Sandy’s Burgers, Pizza, And Pasta has officially rolled into the northern Gold Coast, and it’s here to carb-load your life.

Tucked in the heart of laid-back Labrador, Sandy’s is serving up serious flavour with zero fuss. It’s the kind of place where you don’t have to dress up to indulge, and we are so here for that.

With exposed brick walls, leather seating and a neon-lit feature wall, it’s got the bones of a classic sports bar, with big screens playing the top games, but it doesn’t lean too heavy into the pub vibe.

There’s a warm energy that makes it just as perfect for a night with your mates as it is for a casual family dinner. Kids, date nights, footy fans and foodies all blend in here. With the portions generous enough to share (but why would you?), it’s one of those rare spots that pulls off being cool and comfy.

Let’s break it down one carb at a time, shall we?

The burgers are beefed up in all the right ways with juicy 100% Aussie patties stacked with attitude. The Big Boy Burger is not for the faint-hearted (or the small-jawed). It’s a towering temple of beef patty, fried chicken, egg, triple cheese, bacon, onions, pickles, and bbq sauce, served with fries.

Then there’s the Ozzie Burger. Let’s just say it lives up to the name with a beef burger paired with all the classic Aussie extras like caramalised onion, beetroot, bacon, egg and pineapple. It’s more satisfying than hitting every green light on the Gold Coast Highway.

Now to the pizza. Crispy, golden crusts? Check. Cheese that stretches longer than your last relationship? Double check. The Sandy’s Supreme is a fan fave. Loaded with tomato sauce, cheese, ham, sliced mushroom, pepperoni, pineapple, capsicum, bacon, and olives, it’s a pizza party on a plate.

From Rome to Labrador, the pastas are creamy, dreamy and pasta-tively delish. The comforting Truffle Pasta is rich and cheesy, with a ooey-gooey mushroom and truffle sauce, topped with a mountain of parmesan. Or dive into Sandy’s Special Creamy Garlic Prawns, served in a creamy risotto rice.

Ribs at Sandy’s Burger, Pizza & Pasta, Labrador (Image: © 2025 Inside Gold Coast)

But if you order just one thing for the table, make it the 1kg Pork Ribs. Sticky, saucy and fall-off-the-bone fabulous, this is the kind of dish you need two hands and zero shame for.

Finish with a Sticky Date Pudding that’s basically a hug in dessert form.

Or if you prefer your hugs in liquid form, Sandy’s team are mixologist magicians. From Espresso Martinis to Strawberry Margs, there’s sure to be a cocktail to fire you up from the inside.

Ahhh Chirn Park, you’re the northern GC’s answer to Burleigh…minus the traffic and with an intimate village vibe. Embracing its increasingly trendy rep, Chirn Park is welcoming more and more cool/interesting/unique businesses to this once underrated neck of the woods.

Being the fans that we are, here are 10 reasons why locals…and not so local locals….are flocking to Chirn Park en masse!

Cheesecake at Basque, Chirn Park (Image: © 2024 Inside Gold Coast)

Basque
As it stands, the humble cheesecake is a universally beloved sweet treat that few desserts can rival. And when it comes to rivalries, few can contend Basque’s heavenly cheesecakes. We’re fast approaching two years since this artisan bakehouse arrived in the north city burb, yet they’ve become a fast fixture on dessert plates of locals and passerbyers alike. They do many great things, but pairing cheesecake with champagne may just be their finest idea. Once savoured, you’ll forever be at the mercy of their scrumptious slices. You’ve been warned.

Walk Ins Welcome
This double-establishment beauty may just be the coolest hangout on the Gold Coast for tattoo fiends and ink dabblers alike. It’s a bar, adjoined to a tattoo studio by a flash art-lined corridor. The fit-out is like a retro time capsule with pinball machines, classic arcade games and walls filled with artwork and tattoo flash; a collection of the founder and his team’s work over the years. They have a cocktail menu that makes you want to work from top to bottom, coupled with Connect 4 and Jenga available for some light-hearted fun. The allure of yet another tattoo begins to brew once again…

‘Quan’ is Vietnamese for bar, so no prizes for guessing what this Chirn Park fave serves! Host and owner Wynn serves up the same food as she does at home, even using her mother-in-law’s treasured 20-year-old crock pot! Now that’s authenticity personified! It boasts fabulous food and cocktails and ambience galore, thanks to the awesome interior and never-ending rotation of bums on seats.

Cruize Espresso

With a beautiful soft colour palette, swoon-worthy serve-wear, phenom wall art (Jai Vasicek, we see you…everywhere) and the instagrammable “I love you a latte” neon sign, the menu is as delicious as the fit-out. Think modern brekkie and lunch dishes beautifully presented with pretty-as-a-picture floral garnish, epic coffee, and the friendliest service in the land.

This American eats joint is kind of a big dill

The Yankee’s Restaurant and Bar, Surfers Paradise (Image: © 2024 Inside Gold Coast)
The Yankee’s Restaurant and Bar, Surfers Paradise (Image: © 2024 Inside Gold Coast)

Classic cheeseburgers, Californian Smash-style patties, succulent Southern-style buttermilk chicken stuffed inside pillowy buns – you have to hand it to them, nobody quite does burgers like America does. If you’re a sucker for USA-style eats and the untold levels of deliciousness that can be found between two buns, the arrival of The Yankee’s Restaurant and Bar is really gonna tickle your pickle.

The Yankee’s Restaurant and Bar, Surfers Paradise (Image: © 2024 Inside Gold Coast)

Bursting outta South Australia and into Surfers and packing a whole lot of NYC-inspired deliciousness; American eats devotees will agree the 8-strong franchise has absolutely smashed with their first ever Sunshine State venture out of the park. Slinging juicy ribs, burgers, hot dogs, wings and sips from 11am till late, Orchid Ave’s new patty purveyor offers ravenous punters plenty to sink their teeth into. Sitting smack bang in the heart of Surfers this all-rounder is leaning into its locale, with an assortment of classic crafted cocktails.

Cocktails at The Yankee’s Restaurant and Bar, Surfers Paradise (Image: © 2024 Inside Gold Coast)

Offering a moody yet modern take on the classic Steakhouse style ambience, The Yankee’s Restaurant and Bar encompasses that specific laidback vibe you crave while devouring wings and loaded burgers (and attempting to retain a modicum of grace while doing so). Punters can pick between tables or opt to perch at high top seating – just begging for a pit stop to share a round of margs and American Nachos, if you ask us!

If you’re in the mood for more you’re in the right place. After all, this is an all-American establishment we’re talking – big appetites are kind of their specialty! Sure, you could acquaint yourself with the worthy selection of appetisers, but with a menu that encompasses American Hotdogs, Loaded Fries, Pizzas, Steaks, Wings and Ribs, Nachos and Tacos – some strategy may be required.

In fact, there’s so much to mull over, we suggest you grab a pre-dinner aperitif from the classic Cocktails selection while you do so. Not a generally a Cosmo, Mojito or otherwise fruity-libation inclined individual? Perhaps a beer paddle or tower while you ponder will be more your speed.

Boasting a burger selection as stacked as the dishes themselves, connoisseurs of bun-based American style cuisine are spoilt for choice here. Choose from carb and cheese-a-licious stalwarts like Southern Fried Chicken, pulled pork and slaw style The Ultimate Piggy, or if you truly can’t decide, why not take on The Hulk? Stuffed with several different proteins including (but not limited to) a slow cooked beef patty, crispy fried chicken, pulled pork and bacon, this would have to be the final boss of burgers.

If you’re not quite feeling the urge to unhinge your jaw reptile-style to tackle your main, there are slightly more manageable handheld bites to opt between, like Buffalo Wings, Beef Ribs, Chilli Dogs and Margherita Pizza.

Finish with dessert cornerstones like sauce-laden Caramel Sticky Date or Belgian Choc Waffles served with ice cream… for those who haven’t tapped out by this point, that is.

Who’s hungry?

We’ve never met a burger we didn’t like. Okay, maybe that’s a bit dramatic, but we’ve never met a burger from this list that we didn’t love. The humble burger has reached new heights thanks to these Gold Coast hospo legends putting new twists of the classic favourite. And what’s not to love? They’re reliable, damn tasty and the ultimate all-rounder.

To us, every day is burger day – so we’ve pulled together a list of the 13 best burger joints for you to eat your way through. So cheers to the GOAT dish and one of our favourite menu items and prepare to loosen those belts people!

Paloma Wine Bar
It’s one of Burleigh’s favourite local haunts for their huge wine range, next-level cocktails and steak frites, but have you tried the Paloma Cheeseburger? The burger itself is pretty large and in charge for a humble cheeseburger, plus it’s paired with their signature fries – name a more iconic duo. They’re available exclusively on Wednesdays to help you wine-down on hump day and for $14, you’d be losing money not treating yourself #girlmath.

Two Yolks
Burgers and Burleigh apparently go hand in hand! Two Yolks are home to potentially one of the broadest burger ranges, you can literally treat yourself to a toasty bun for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The Triple B is a solid (literally) starter to your day with Bangalow free range bacon, pork sausage plus a heap more with… wait for it… tater tots as a sneaky side. Feeling like something a little more classic? Well the options are (almost) endless with spicy fried chicken all the way through to a Mexican moment.
Where: 13 Connor St, Burleigh Heads

Betty’s Burgers
We don’t make this claim lightly, but there is quite literally a burger for everyone here. Vegan? No problem. Don’t make friends with gluten? Say less. These guys clearly take their burgers seriously because Betty’s have a huge 15 different burgers to choose from, your biggest problem will be narrowing it down to just one. The best problem to have if we do say so ourselves. Need some inspo? We can’t go past the Betty’s Deluxe or Shroom Burger. Perfect for refuelling post retail therapy.

Wahlburgers first Queensland store located at the beach end of the newly renovated Paradise Centre always deliver on big burgers with big flavour. Rock up with the crew after some time on the beach and tuck into a BBQ Bacon Burger (which is brother Donnie’s choice) with a beef patty, tasty cheese, bacon, fresh jalapenos, BBQ sauce and avo spread – the perfect combo with all of your favourites on one delicious burger.  Pro tip: level it up with the famous Fried Pickles to start with and thank us later.

Their American-style menu with an edge never disappoints and their Royale with Cheese Burger featuring beef, cheese, special sauce, lettuce, tomato and pickles served with fries and ketchup will have you coming back for more. We love that there’s an Aussie Aussie Aussie Burger with grilled pineapple, beetroot and egg, because we don’t see this on menus enough these days.
