LiTO brings all-day Italian to Burleigh.

Is it just us, or do you also love Italian feasts that stretch from late morning into the golden hours of evening?

We have brunch, sure, but what about linner? Dunch? Italians seem to have perfected the art of combining all three in one delicious, leisurely day. We may not have the ideal word for it, but if that feeling could be captured in a single Gold Coast dining spot, it might just be LiTO.

Set to open this week on the ground floor of the newly launched Mondrian Gold Coast, the first Australian address for the globally renowned hotel brand, LiTO is an all-day restaurant where you can enjoy the warmth of Italian hospitality from a quiet morning espresso to aperitivo with friends at sunset.

Designed by Sydney-based Alexander &CO., LiTO’s interiors blend Mediterranean texture with modern Australian, including a semi-private chef’s table overlooking the wood-fired kitchen offering a more immersive experience. It’s as if the restaurant itself is inviting you to settle in.

We certainly don’t need an excuse with a menu like this.

At the helm of the kitchen is Italian-born Head Chef Andrea Morigi, who has created culinary magic at some of Merivale’s most beloved Sydney venues, including Uccello and Jimmy’s Falafels. At LiTO, Morigi brings his philosophy of life through food that is deeply rooted in Italian dining shaped by Queensland’s coastal produce.

“It’s about joy on the plate – handmade, wholehearted, relaxed. Like the kind of meal best shared among friends with something good in the glass,” Andrea said.

Mornings begin with Allpress coffee and Italian-accented breakfast offerings. Your post-surf feed never tasted better as you dive into Sicilian Poached Eggs with shaved lonza and tomato hollandaise on sourdough. Even the humble avo has been given the Italian twist with Spiced Avocado Bruschetta topped with stracciatella, pesto and crisp chilli.

Like a good ol’ Italian get together, lunch and dinner merge as one (Linner? Dunch? Still undecided), taking grazing to the next level. Share an oozy Byron Bay Burrata with compressed rockmelon and pistachio, or get saucy with Wood-fired Beef Meatballs made with westholme wagyu and topped with mozzarella.

Luxurious pastas will linger on your tongue and in your tummy like slow-cooked Lamb Ragu Saffron Pappardelle and Southern Rock Lobster Bucatini in a red shellfish sauce.

Fire it up with the Charcoaled-grilled T-bone 800gr wagyu cross MB 6-7+ “Bistecca” served with gold tomatoes and aged balsamic.

To keep the la dolce vita vibes vibing, the wine list is an evolving celebration of Australian and Italian producers, while a smart cocktail selection including classic spritzes and house aperitivos captures the spirit of both the Amalfi and the Australian coastlines. Cin cin to that!

And when in Rome — or in this case, LiTO — dessert from The Trolley is non-negotiable. A curated selection of sweet treats is wheeled tableside, offering a final flourish to your meal. Perhaps a zesty Italian meringue lemon tart, or a rich chocolate and hazelnut torte — each served with amaretto and coffee mascarpone cream, finished with a drizzle of coffee syrup. Now that’s amore.

Slice of Haven

Cancel your Euro summer plans! Haven, a new restaurant and beach club, is opening this month in Burleigh Heads and it’s set to be hotter than a Mediterranean heatwave.

Perched three floors above the pandanus-lined shoreline at the stunning new Mondrian Gold Coast (Australia’s very first, no less), Haven takes beach club vibes to new heights. Officially opening on the 5th June, thanks to the dream team at Ennismore and Vitale Property Group, Haven is where laidback luxe and coastal cool collide.

Designed by Sydney’s Alexander &CO., Haven spans a refined yet relaxed dining room, private cabanas, a full-service pool club and a sunset bar. With every space having its own personality, there’s always a new nook to explore.

Whether you’re brunching in your bikini or toasting at twilight, Haven was made to move with you and your crew. As the sun sets, the evening comes alive with a soundtrack of DJs, curated playlists and live performances.

But what really sets the bar sky-high, is the food.

The man behind the menu is none other than Executive Chef Aaron Teece, whose impressive dining hotspots include EST., Felix, Manly Pavilion and his own creative food studio, Studio Neon. He’s bringing serious star-chef credentials but with a distinctly grounded vibe.

Aaron said, “I want people to feel the season and the source with every bite, because when ingredients are respected, simplicity speaks loudest.”

Haven’s menus are anchored in our coastline, with seafood heroing from Cairns, the Sunshine Coast and Northern NSW, backed by prime paddock-to-plate meats and vibrant hinterland produce.

We recommend your culinary adventure starts with a seafood platter of ½ lobster, oysters, Australian Bay bug, Ballina king prawns, Tweed Coast spanner crab, fish crudo, marinated octopus, scallop crudo. Talk about catch of the day.

The woodfire grill at the heart of the kitchen isn’t just for show. Wood-fired scallop pie with crisp pastry and curry sauce, Lobster frites kissed with café de paris butter and the whopping 600g Westholme waygu bone in sirloin served with red wine jus are sure to fire up a cool evening.

You’ll want to make room for dessert too, with Woodfired Basque cheesecake and Signature Haven Pavlova.

The drinks list is nothing to sniff at, it’s to sip through long after the sun goes down. Expect crisp coastal wines and a seriously savvy cocktail list, from spicy margs to frozen Matcha Colada. For the agave lovers, there’s even a dedicated menu featuring tequila, mezcal, raicilla and bacanora, perfect for sipping poolside as the sun melts into the sea.

20 reasons locals love Burleigh Heads

Burleigh Hill (image courtesy of Destination Gold Coast)
Burleigh Hill (image courtesy of Destination Gold Coast)

Oh Burleigh you little beauty, what’s not to love right? Since the dawn of time (or the dawn of the GC at least) Burleigh has been one of the most-loved suburbs amongst a slew of strong contenders.

Sure, the beach is beautiful (that Hill is iconic for a reason) and James Street boasts all the best eats and acai bowls galore but it’s more than that, Burleigh has a soul of its own born of cruisy, barefoot, salty seabreeze vibes you simply won’t find anywhere else.

Gushing aside, we’ve found the best of Burleigh so you don’t have to.

We say when in Burleigh do as the locals do, so here’s our guide to the best eats, bars, shopping spots and places to visit so you can see why the locals love it and you should too (or else).

Fine Dining
Restaurant Labart
The fine dining venue has become part of the fabric of Burleigh’s bustling heart, but it’s also become one of the Gold Coast’s premier dining destinations. Tucked away on West Street, the five-star, seasonal produce-led restaurant is an absolute must-visit and your dining experience there is one you won’t long forget. The produce is sustainable and the wine list is filled with some of the most stunning natural wines in the world. The service is impeccable too, but in a fun, not-too-formal way. We LOVE.

Rick Shores
Literally opening out onto the sand at Burleigh beach, Rick Shores is loved (not only locally) for its stunning sunset views and those tiny little taste sensations otherwise known as Bug Rolls. If you’ve never tasted one, you’ve been wasting your life, make a booking RIGHT NOW and order them all. Wash them down with one of Rick’s signature cocktails and you’re a bonafide Burleigh-ite.

Mr Hizola’s
Yum, contemporary Cantonese food, we love you. Mr Hizola’s is dishing up the goods in the form of tasty share-style dishes and we are here for it. Particularly the sizzling steak dish that is all kinds of delicious and an array of epic cocktails to match.

Jimmy Wahs
If you’re looking for fancy food but with the relaxed vibe that’s quintessentially Burleigh, look no further. The stunning space offers incredible Vietnamese dishes inspired by Head Chef Jake’s trip through Vietnam and a desire to eat some of the very best street food in the world every single day. Same. It’s a refined style of dining paired with mouthwatering cocktails and a sleek, paired back vibe. Jimmy Wahs is one of the Gold Coast’s most impressive eateries and we are big fans.

Casuals Eats
Burleigh Town Hotel
If you haven’t seen this new reno, then where have you been? One of the best glow ups on the GC recently (in our humble opinion), Burleigh Town Hotel has nailed the pub-style menu and good vibes. The perfect place to set up for the arvo with your besties and the kids, there’s loads of space for the little ones to roam and plenty to keep them entertained while you kick back with a beverage in hand. Say less.

Coffee Hangs
Paddock Bakery
One thing locals know, is the only thing loose in this (top) paddock is only the most scrumptious, buttery baked goods in 4220. Ever since Paddock opened it’s charmingly renovated doors in 2014, locals have been flocking there daily for their much-kneaded Paddock fix.

Reigning supreme as our baked-goods, brunch and lunch hookup ever since, the ex-Queenslander-turned-treehouse-of-our-childhood-dreams has expanded to welcome us and our relentless sweet tooth’s with open arms. With the lush gardens, cottage, loft, rooftop and barn to retreat to, the only thing more extensive than the dining space options is the menu to indulge from.
Where: 20 Hibiscus Haven, Burleigh Heads

Tarte Bakery & Cafe
There’s good reason this gem is heaving at all hours, the home of the iconic muffin top (IYKYK) and some of the best coffee in town, it’s not just locals who love it – you’ll find Gold Coasters and beyond flocking here for a taste of the goods. Come for a coffee and to get around their huge menu with something for everyone – literally, it’s impossible to not love something. Plus, we’re pretty sure it’s mandatory to leave with a pastry in tow – go on, you deserve it.

Social by name, social by nature – Social Brew is one of Burleigh’s best coffee hangouts whether you’re looking to catch up with the crew or a spot to work for the day, there’s a reason these guys have stood the test of time. A staple spot to visit in Burleigh for their signature iced coffee, come for the caffeine and stay for the bites.

They use only the finest ingredients and the traditional process of fermentation. Do not buy bread anywhere else. You’re welcome.

Something To Drink
Paloma Wine Bar
From the brains that brought us Labart is the one and only Paloma. This small but mighty wine bar has one of the largest selections of boutique wines (we mean, it is in the name) with some seriously epic eats to accompany. We can’t go past the steak frites – seriously, don’t sleep on this – and if you don’t know where to start on what to sip the expert team always nail the reccos. Pop a Pet Nat on your must-try for something a little bubbly or if you’re more of a red drinker, their signature chilled reds are the ultimate for a hot summer’s day.

Rosella’s
It’s the good time, slightly fancy Australiana bar of your dreams and it is perfectly at home in Burleigh Heads. Rosella’s very quickly became a firm local favourite when it opened last year and with both a drinks and food menu made up entirely of Australian produce, we are in love. There are cocktails made with Nutri Grain, some of the tastiest toasties around and all the very best Aussie beers. It’s refined, beautifully decked out and created by a couple of absolute legends. Love.

Looking out over the ocean and with the city in the distance, it’s the perfect spot for a late afternoon lemonade or early morning coffee date with the crew. Burly Bar by Studio Plenty wins at 2025 Dulux Colour Awards

30.05.25
Burly Bar has officially joined the design elite, taking home an accolade at the 2025 Dulux Colour Awards on Wednesday, 28th May. Held at the National Gallery of Victoria, the prestigious awards night celebrated the most daring and imaginative uses of colour in architecture and design across Australia and New Zealand.

Designed by Studio Plenty, Burly Bar turned heads with its rich palette of red, brown and amber tones, an immersive nod to Burly Gin’s bougie bottle design. Housed in the Currumbin industrial estate, the venue impressed judges with its moody finishes, painted trusses, and clever use of light to create a warm, seductive atmosphere that’s as stylish as the spirits it serves.

Now in its 39th year, the Dulux Colour Awards are known for spotlighting rule-breaking, genre-defying design, and Burly Bar delivered on all fronts. Judges praised the project’s “fine manipulation of light” and “deep understanding of the versatility of colour,” cementing its place among the region’s best. With a ground-floor bar and mezzanine lounge wrapped in textural layers of plaster, fabric and finishes, it’s more than a bar, it’s a brand statement.

Mermaid Beach is getting a glow-up: Meet the Alfred

13.05.25
Big things are coming to Mermaid Beach, and no, we’re not talking about the surf break. Local developer Daniel Veitch (yep, the guy behind The Oxley 1823 at Nobby Beach) is set to shake things up again with The Alfred – a bold new mixed-use project that’s bringing serious main character energy to the Gold Coast Highway. Sitting pretty just metres from the soon-to-arrive Mermaid Beach South light rail station, The Alfred will feature a 7-storey residential tower with 80 luxe apartments, a retail and dining precinct, and a leafy, pedestrian-friendly public realm. Think landscaped laneways, buzzing plazas, and an urban playground made for living, lounging, and latte-sipping.

Designed by BDA Architecture and J.AR Office, this isn’t your average building. The Alfred blends modernist style with sustainability smarts, think natural ventilation, seamless indoor-outdoor living, and lush sub-tropical greenery at every turn. The ground-level podium will serve up eats, drinks, and retail gems, while the luxury tower above will make the most of all that on-your-doorstep amenity. With three street frontages – Gold Coast Highway, Alfred Street, and Tamborine Street – the development takes full advantage of its prime spot.

Currently operating as Mermaid Beach Village (with a car park and retail offerings), the 4095sqm site is about to enter its main character era. The Alfred isn’t just a building, it’s a whole vibe.

Three Gold Coast projects named finalists in Dulux Colour Awards

28.03.25
The Gold Coast has secured its place in the design spotlight, with three standout projects earning finalist spots in the 2025 Dulux Colour Awards. Recognising innovative and inspiring use of colour in design, the annual awards celebrate the best in residential and commercial architecture across Australia and New Zealand. Among the finalists are The Daydream House by Goldie Homes, YOMGPacific Fair by ElvinTan Design, and Burly Bar by Studio Plenty, each bringing a unique and bold approach to colour in design.

The Daydream House by Goldie Homes, a finalist in the Single Residential Exterior category, has already gained national attention after being featured on Grand Designs Australia. This stunning project embodies the seamless integration of contemporary design with the natural beauty of the Gold Coast, using a colour palette that enhances its coastal setting while pushing creative boundaries in residential architecture.

Meanwhile, YOMG – Pacific Fair, designed by ElvinTan Design, stands out in the Commercial Interior Public and Hospitality category for its dynamic use of colour to create an immersive dining experience. With bold contrasts and unexpected hues, the space redefines traditional hospitality aesthetics, blending playfulness with sophistication.

Rounding out the trio is Burly Bar by Studio Plenty, also a finalist in the Commercial Interior Public and Hospitality category. This Currumbin-based venue expertly balances nostalgia with modern design, using rich, contrasting tones to craft an intimate yet experimental atmosphere. The project showcases the power of colour as a storytelling tool, challenging conventional design typologies and setting a new benchmark for hospitality interiors.

Bared footwear launches at Pacific Fair

16.12.24
Iconic Australian footwear label, Bared, has launched a brand-new flagship store at Pacific Fair, Gold Coast.

Founded in Melbourne in 2008 by podiatrist turned entrepreneur, Anna Baird, this brand has developed a cult-like following for making shoes that feel as good as they look.

“So much of our brand success comes from our customer service. Online is a huge part of our business, but I absolutely love brick and mortar retailing. It makes me so happy when our amazing team is able to look after our customers in person, and we’re able to create a store environment that is beautiful, relaxed and welcoming. The Gold Coast has changed so much over the past 10 years, and I personally adore it here. For very selfish reasons, I am really excited about now getting to come here for work as well as pleasure.”

From the earth-toned elegance of its light-filled store, to the timeless allure and comfort of the shoes – this is the perfect ‘treat yourself’ store for the festive season.

“We have never had a store in a shopping mall before so it will be fascinating to see the differences in high street shopping. When it came to designing this store, we had a lot of fun playing with a bit more colour. It is not dissimilar to our pop-up store that we currently have in Soho, New York. I worked again with Ben and Amy Stafford at ACRD to design the store – we always work so well together. They make the process very easy even though I can be extremely particular,” says Anna.
