Healthy food and a balmy, beachside lifestyle go hand in hand and lucky for us Gold Coasters, who are perpetually bikini clad, good-for-us food venues are popping up all over the place.
The latest to join the gang is HiPoke, who quietly opened their doors this week to bring the people of Kirra a poke bowl bar where nutritious, high quality foods are the name of the game.
The poke bowl phenomenon has taken the Gold Coast by storm over the last few months and why wouldn’t it. Originating in Hawaii, poke bowls are made up of protein and salad combinations artfully arranged in bowls and perfect for both consuming and Instagram snaps. Two of our favourite things.
The little space is cute as a button with high bench seating and a whole wall of tropical wallpaper. From the big front window you’ll spy the sparkling sea, just across the road, so we highly recommend grabbing a bowl to go.
At HiPoke, things can go two ways; choose from a range of five signature bowls or build your own. All the bowls are made up of the best possible ingredients including sashimi grade fish, local prawns and local produce wherever possible. Everything from sauces to the juices used in acai bowls are made in house and it’s all as fresh as can be.
Of the signature bowls, we’re all about the Karaage Chicken with edamame, carrot, corn, sweet chilli mayo and lotus root chips.
If choosing your own adventure is more your thing, there are plenty of ways to go.
Start with a base of sushi, coconut or black rice, quinoa or zucchini pasta then add your protein (hi Kingfish sashimi), choose from many salad options, add some sauce and then whack something crunchy on top.
Of course, there are acai bowls, fresh juices and a yummy selection of smoothies including one made with organic cold brew coffee.
It’s a lovely little addition to Kirra, which was a little bit lacking in the fresh, feel good eats department.
How pretty is she though.
