Frockarama

A suitcase, rack and rummage fashion sale.

Entire days dedicated to new wardrobe additions are our favourite thing. Especially if said new wardrobe additions come with a side of live DJ entertainment, stylist sessions and a wine bar.

Excitingly, one such day will soon be happening on the Gold Coast and you, lovers of fashion and frivolity, are invited.

Frockarama is set to take place on Sunday March 31st inside the Events Arena at Carrara Markets and it’s going to be an absolute extravaganza of both new and preloved clothing, overflows from local brands, shoes and accessories and they are all yours for the taking.

At some point in your life, you’ve no doubt experienced the mind-boggling phenomenon of having a wardrobe full of clothes but nothing to wear. Same.

Which is why an event like Frockarama is the perfect idea.

There’ll be hundreds of pieces on offer at bargain prices from girls just like you who need a wardrobe update but also have so many things in their cupboards they either don’t need or don’t wear.

Frockarama event organiser, Mia Lee says “Buying pre-loved fashion at Frockarama encourages more sustainable fashion choices. It’s also a brilliant way to ensure excess clothes don’t end up as landfill.”

“Our shopping practices have changed considerably with less pressure to always buy new. Buying from a thrift shop or doing wardrobe swaps with friends is now common practice. It’s creates less impact on the environment, it’s inexpensive and it’s so much more fun!”

Why pay full price when you can find a range of designer and much-loved labels at discount prices including Zimmerman, Kookai, Zara, Country Road, Shona Joy, Michael Kors, Polo, Lacoste and Tigerlily to name a few.

There’ll also be a glitter makeup zone so you can get sparkly before you shop up a storm.

So, if your idea of a good day out is filling your wardrobe with your best gals by your side, wine, pumping tunes and somebody to tell you how delightful you look, pop Frockarama in your calendar right now.

P.s entry and car parking are free.

It’s the fashion event of the year friends.

The Undercurrent

Coming into Fashion

A fashion photography exhibition is coming to The Arts Centre showcasing 100 years of stunning images from the likes of famed photographers Mario Testino and Helmut Newton.

The photography and vintage couture exhibition showcases all the glorious aspects of fashion photography you know and love – bold colours, creative combinations and perfectly placed models – and is, in our humble opinion, one of the most exciting things to grace our golden shores.

The exhibition also includes a selection of vintage couture fashion from The Darnell Collection – Australia’s largest private collection of fashion from the late 1700s to the 20th century. The collection’s custodian, author and fashion historian Charlotte Smith, has selected the finest and most iconic pieces.

Throughout the three months it’s showing at The Arts Centre, Coming into Fashion will screen a collection of fashion films and documentaries and host workshops and casual chats with people who know things.

One such chat will take place with fashion blogger royalty Amanda Shadforth, who you may or may not know as Oracle Fox. She’s the chicest of chic and she can be sitting in front of you on November 25th to share her (Ghandi-like) thoughts on the future of fashion.

In January, Fashion Forum will see international industry leaders come together to exchange ideas and experiences of the fashion variety, the likes of which us mere mortals can never imagine.

Oh, FYI Condé Nast is the media company responsible for publications like Vogue, Vanity Fair, Glamour, Brides, Self, GQ, GQ Style, The New Yorker and probably your sky-high credit card debt.

Style may never go out of fashion, but this show is for a limited time only so get it while it’s hot at The Arts Centre from November 25th to February 18th.

LOCATION: The Arts Centre, 135 Bundall Rd, Bundall
HOURS: Open daily from 10am to 5pm

There are many things we Gold Coasters are fond of. A new beachside eggs benny brunch spot. Bottomless long lunches. Farmers Markets. Finding the last park at Burleigh Hill on a Sunday. Heading out on the town in a brand new ‘fit #thanksitsnew.

We’re pretty spoilt for choice when it comes to local boutiques frilled to the brim with incredible Aussie designers and labels #luckyus. Plus, we get the added warm and fuzzy feels of supporting local small biz #winwin. So, we’ve rounded up 9 of our fave GC boutiques for your spending pleasure. We’re not sure what’s harder, narrowing this list down to just 9, or walking out of any of the below empty handed.

Emte
A must visit store in the Burleigh area, Emte Boutique was founded by a Gold Coast girl who felt that there was a gap to be filled for fashion jewellery and accessories that are cutting edge, stylish, on trend and affordable. We concur. And also spend a lot of dollars here.

While we’re still sad Alfred’s Diner is no more, the lads are still providing our local men with an ever growing range of curated fashion and accessories.
