This landmark event brings together over 100 rare manuscripts, first editions, and 70 stunning portraits, offering a rare glimpse into the lives and works of history’s most influential writers.
In collaboration with the British Library and National Portrait Gallery, the exhibition spans over 500 years of English literature. Visitors will encounter literary icons such as William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, the Brontë sisters, J.R.R. Tolkien, Virginia Woolf, and contemporary writers like Zadie Smith and Sir Kazuo Ishiguro.
Highlights include intimate items like J.R.R. Tolkien’s letters to his grandson, Virginia Woolf’s manuscript for Mrs Dalloway, and Jane Austen’s writing desk. The exhibition also features rare portraits from the National Portrait Gallery, offering a visual connection to these literary giants.
Writers Revealed will run until 3 August 2025 at HOTA’s Gallery 1, transforming the space into an immersive exploration of literary history. This exclusive exhibition invites visitors to discover the enduring power of the written word and the creative minds behind some of the world’s most beloved works of literature.
