Somerset Storyfest is one to bookmark in March, as the city’s very own writers’ festival takes over the Gold Coast this month with some of Australia’s leading writers, illustrators and publishers, and a whole lot of literary fun.
Held from 20 to 23 March, Storyfest will see more than 30 of Australia’s celebrated authors and illustrators land on the Gold Coast to inspire a generation of writers and avid readers with an action-packed line up of sessions, networking events, workshops, panels and free, family-friendly community events.
The festival, recently known as Somerset Celebration of Literature, enters its 26th year on the Gold Coast and is much loved by the Gold Coast community. The festival will spread literature magic from the southern end to northern end of the Gold Coast, offering something for everyone in March, including adults, families and students alike.
2019 Festival highlights include the annual Prologue Party on Wednesday 20 March from 5:30pm, featuring a spectacular marching grand parade where guests can rub shoulders with some of Australia’s best authors and enjoy an evening filled with live music, food trucks and array of colourful acts including stilt walkers, clowns and more.
The annual Literary Lunch will see internationally best-selling author of adult and children novels, Fiona McIntosh captivate audiences on Thursday 21 March, and Samantha Bloom, from Penguin Bloom fame, a tale which tells the inspiring and true story of her unique and extraordinary journey rescuing an injured magpie chick called Penguin, visit the festival for an inspiring evening at the annual Literary Dinner on Friday 22 March.
Other special guests joining the 2019 Storyfest line up in March include local Lucas Proudfoot, along with Jane Caro, collaborative writing team Cath Crowley, Simmone Howell and Fiona Wood, physical poetic performer Scott Wings and crowd favourite, Tristan Bancks.
Offering over 130 events to the wider community, Storyfest has secured its place on the Gold Coast’s cultural calendar! Book lovers are urged to mark their diaries in March, as Somerset Storyfest delivers a month filled with literary events.
