parkrun Australia has announced it will be running additional free events on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day nationwide. Gold Coast locations include:
Christmas Day parkruns have been held since 2004 and encourage Aussies to get active and connect with their local communities through exercise during the festive season.
Events are held to combat loneliness on Christmas Day, and to provide opportunities for connection during the holiday period.
The parkrun end-of-year celebrations are set to see tens of thousands of walkers, runners and volunteers take part in more than 160 parkruns right across the country, from Darwin to the Dandenongs and Cairns to Kalgoorlie.
Participants are encouraged to pull out their best Santa costume or festive get-up for the events, with Christmas Day parkruns historically held with a fancy dress theme to dial-up the fun.
Whether someone identifies as a runner or not, parkrun is for everyone. The national events welcome Australians of all ages and fitness levels – and encourage participants to walk, jog, run or volunteer.
