Destination Tweed 2050 announces Hunt and Gather: a feast of wild venison event featuring multi-award winning chef Dariush Lolaiy, to be held on August 25 at Mavis’s Kitchen.
Furthering the Tweed region’s reputation as a leader in culinary experiences which capture the essence of the destination, the event will feature venison caught and harvested from the wild. Chef Dariush Lolaiy will showcase cultural traditions and innovative techniques, including the preparation of meals over an open fire. The event will also feature produce from Mavis’s Kitchen garden and drinks from Husk Distillery.
“The Tweed is now emerging as a hub for extraordinary bespoke food experiences,” Kylie Ryan-Milroy, Chair of Destination Tweed 2050 Collective says. “Our high-quality produce is born from our pristine environment and artisan producers working alongside our community of creative chefs to serve up memorable and authentic culinary adventures. This event is one such celebration.”
Lolaiy’s seminal wilderness-to-fire approach to cooking celebrates time, place, purpose and environmental impact. Often served outdoors in nature, the meals are guided by the seasons and local bounty from the bush. These dining experiences create space for guests to slow right down, and to savour the moment. Join Destination Tweed 2050 Collective and Lolaiy for an evening to remember based around fire.
“Wild venison is often thought of as a strongly flavoured slow cooking meat,” Chef Darius Lolaiy says. “I can’t wait to show our guests the surprising delicate flavour of this lean, healthy, ethically-sourced protein.”
