With a tagline like “life is too short for bad burgers”, it was always bound to be love at first sight….and bite! Furthermore, life is also too short to travel for a good burger, an ongoing gripe from our northern Gold Coast folk. Well, fret no-more northerners, as finally, some clued-up (and v experienced) entrepreneurs have filled the void. And not just any old savvy folk, but THE Burger Boss’s themselves; the Burger Lane Co. food truck crew! Yep that’s right, they’ve taken their burger caper to the next level, moving into a fixed space in the ever-growing Paradise Point eats precinct. We’ve sampled their burger and American chow sorcery and OMG, you better run – not walk – to this one!

Taking up residence where another fave, Cross + Feather once lived (RIP guys), this unassuming corner of Grice Avenue has been waiting for the right peeps to swoop in and reinstate its former glory. And we have no doubt that owners Shaun Lewis, Jessica Lane (hence the ‘Lane’ part of the name) and Joseph Bartlett are the trio to do just that. And it’s quite poetic because Shaun was once a Chef at Cross + Feather, so it was fate really. But more on them a little later coz let’s talk fit-out and BURGERS baby!

Burger Lane Co. neon and exterior (Image: © 2022 Inside Gold Coast)
Burger Lane Co. neon and exterior (Image: © 2022 Inside Gold Coast)

This inside-outside venue is a vibe in every respect, starting with the statement yellow and lilac neon Burger Lane Co. sign illuminating the main interior black brick wall. The counter and bar are adorned in distressed white wood panels, natural wooden benchtops, and purple neon strip lighting. In amongst the wooden tables you’ll spot a couple of feature barrels with inbuilt table tops, and we really want one in our abode. Like fo real.

Moving on to the best part – the menus! We’re jumping head-first into The Roadie which is their signature cheese burger with beef patty, American cheddar, bacon, onion rings and smokey BBQ sauce, and why not grab LOADED fries with that! Their Buffalo Loaded Fries tick all the boxes, with fried chicken bites, buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing. Now it’s time for our pick which is also an early crowd pleaser – the Bug Lane. And yes guys, it is precisely what you are hoping it is; the morphing of a burger and a bug and with that, we are in actual heaven. Picture this; garlic butter, sauteed bug, cos lettuce and homemade seafood sauce and we can confirm that it’s even better in real life.

If you’re more of a hot dog kinda person, there are several on offer and we’re calling out the Mac Miller with pork bratwurst, chilli cheese macaroni, jalapenos & cheese sauce. A side of Jalapeno Poppers never goes astray either, with lashings of blue cheese sauce. So, with all this we could stack on some serious kg at this point, but more of us to love we say!

What goes hand-in-hand with a burger? Booze of course, and Burger Lane Co. is both fully licensed and fully stocked up! An extra big kudos is due for supporting fellow northside legends by serving up White Oat Distillery gin-inspired cocktails, Black Hops beers on tap and Wine Not! wine satchels – for those sneaky park sessions.

Back to the founders, Shaun with a history in gourmet burgers and fellow front-of-house superstar (and wifey) Jessica were left jobless thanks to that pandemic named after a beer. Forced to pivot, they had the genius idea to buy a food truck and spent the next couple of years bouncing around our top breweries, festivals and private catering gigs. Fast forward to 2022 in a post-Rona climate, and a drive-by of the vacant Paradise Point site gave them exactly what they needed; the perfect posse for a permanent site and the rest is history as they say. And we are eternally grateful.

So next time you have burgers on the brain (which is us… daily) and a rip-snorter burger at that, it’s time to ‘meat’ your new burger brewing bestie, the one and only Burger Lane Co.

Where: 2/2 Grice Avenue, Paradise Point
When: 10.30am – late, Monday – Sunday

TGI Fridays, Surfers Paradise (image supplied)
TGI Fridays, Surfers Paradise (image supplied)

We’ve never met a burger we didn’t like. Okay, maybe that’s a bit dramatic, but we’ve never met a burger from this list that we didn’t love. The humble burger has reached new heights thanks to these Gold Coast hospo legends putting new twists of the classic favourite. And what’s not to love? They’re reliable, damn tasty and the ultimate all-rounder.

Think you’re not a burger lover? Well, we challenge you not to be after eating your way through this epicness. Already converted? Thank us later because your tastebuds will never be the same after these bad boys. To us, every day is burger day – so we’ve pulled together a list of the 13 best burger joints for you to eat your way through. So cheers to the GOAT dish and one of our favourite menu items and prepare to loosen those belts people!

Paloma Wine Bar
It’s one of Burleigh’s favourite local haunts for their huge wine range, next-level cocktails and steak frites, but have you tried the Paloma Cheeseburger? The burger itself is pretty large and in charge for a humble cheeseburger, plus it’s paired with their signature fries – name a more iconic duo. They’re available exclusively on Wednesdays to help you wine-down on hump day and for $14, you’d be losing money not treating yourself #girlmath.
Where: 1/12 James St, Burleigh Heads

Two Yolks
Burgers and Burleigh apparently go hand in hand! Two Yolks are home to potentially one of the broadest burger ranges, you can literally treat yourself to a toasty bun for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The Triple B is a solid (literally) starter to your day with Bangalow free range bacon, pork sausage plus a heap more with… wait for it… tater tots as a sneaky side. Feeling like something a little more classic? Well the options are (almost) endless with spicy fried chicken all the way through to a Mexican moment.

These guys clearly take their burgers seriously because Betty’s have a huge 15 different burgers to choose from, your biggest problem will be narrowing it down to just one. The best problem to have if we do say so ourselves. Need some inspo? We can’t go past the Betty’s Deluxe or Shroom Burger. Perfect for refuelling post retail therapy.

Wahlburgers first Queensland store located at the beach end of the newly renovated Paradise Centre always deliver on big burgers with big flavour. Rock up with the crew after some time on the beach and tuck into a BBQ Bacon Burger (which is brother Donnie’s choice) with a beef patty, tasty cheese, bacon, fresh jalapenos, BBQ sauce and avo spread – the perfect combo with all of your favourites on one delicious burger.  Pro tip: level it up with the famous Fried Pickles to start with and thank us later.

Their American-style menu with an edge never disappoints and their Royale with Cheese Burger featuring beef, cheese, special sauce, lettuce, tomato and pickles served with fries and ketchup will have you coming back for more. We love that there’s an Aussie Aussie Aussie Burger with grilled pineapple, beetroot and egg, because we don’t see this on menus enough these days. 10 reasons locals love Paradise Point

Paradise Point, Ephraim Island and Sovereign Island (image courtesy of Destination Gold Coast)
Paradise Point, Ephraim Island and Sovereign Island (image courtesy of Destination Gold Coast)

Our ‘northerners’ on the GC are a fiercely patriotic bunch, long determined for their neck of the woods to get the cool cred normally reserved for the other end of town. Paradise Point is one particularly notable spot where there is much to see and do whether you’re after a family-friendly day out, caffeine hit, an eats spot for date night or a liquid lunch (or actual lunch, although we’re partial to the former) with your gal pals.

Here are a handful of reasons why locals love Paradise Point.

Burleigh Baker
Northern GC folk who were fans of Burleigh Baker (in Burleigh – who’d have thunk it…) were high fiving each other when the Paradise Point sister popped up. With a passion for crafting artisan sourdough bread and brewing excellent Handsome brand coffee, the cafe menu is based around the bread (obvs), with freshly made dishes sourced from the best ingredients. Carbs, come at us.

Jonez on Ephraim
Dr Jones, Jones, calling Dr Jones…. No there is no doctor but there is a Michelin Star Chef, Gary Jones. So expect a fine-dining haven offering up the finest seasonal ingredients, fresh fish and classical French cuisine. We’re ordering Duck Liver Parfait with sourdough and marinated figs, Quail Porchetta and for dessert, Scroppino; prosecco and vodka lemon sorbet (hells yeah. Can we have seconds…and thirds…and… you get the point).
Where: Ephraim Island, Paradise Point

Paradise Point Parklands
Undeniably one of the GC’s most breathtaking park areas, it’s an absolute must-see. Overlooking the beautiful Broadwater, pack a picnic, throw a snag on the barbie and let the kids entertain themselves for hours in the large playground areas. There are open grassed spaces perfect for a game of cricket, and the walking trail will get your heart-rate up while you take in the million-dollar views… quite literally with views of some Sovereign Island homes.

Sweet Bambino Interior (Image: © 2021 Inside Gold Coast)

Sweet Bambino
This hole-in-the-wall is a newer player on the Paradise Point eats and coffee scene, and an instant hit from day dot. With a fit-out that screams modern chic (think polished concrete floors, rustic grey walls, foliage for a pop of greenery and moody lighting for days), her it-girl vibes are only rivaled by the coffee and delish counter food selection.
Where: 1/46 The Esplanade, Paradise Point

Mano’s Italian
It’s been a winner with locals for years for a darn good reason. The fresh, hearty Italian food at Mano’s is first class, as is the service and welcoming ambience. Menu highlights include the impressive range of pastas (I die), steak and seafood dishes, not to mention their delish daily specials. They’re fully licenced because what even is pasta without wine?
