ANZAC Day falls on a Tuesday this year, and to commemorate and remember all the brave men and women who have served and died for Australia, we share with you some of the events and ceremonies happening on the Gold Coast this ANZAC Day.

Break out the milk, rum and biccies, two-up is going down at all the local SLSC’s as we toast the day away to our military heroes.  


Anzac Eve Symbolic Sleepout
The 2017 Symbolic Sleep Out is a huge annual community fundraiser giving you the opportunity to sleep overnight at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and enjoy exclusive access to Currumbin’s Dawn Service at a reserved area on the beach with direct view of the stage and ceremonial area. 100% of profits raised from ticket sales go directly to Veterans’ welfare. Tickets include  a night time Wondering Wildlife Experience and ‘Critters Craft Area’ for the kids, interviews with veterans and an outdoor cinema showing ‘Gallipoli’.

Dawn Services and Morning Services

Currumbin RSL Dawn Service/Morning Service
A shuttle service will be available from 3:30am from Currumbin RSL, The Pines Shopping Centre, running continuously until the commencement of the Dawn Service. After the dawn service, return buses will depart from the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. The march assembles at 4.20am at Murraba Street, Currumbin and commences at 4.35am followed by the dawn service at 5am at Elephant Rock, Currumbin Beach. Gunfire breakfast is served at Currumbin RSL from 6.30am (veterans free, other patrons $5).
Mid-morning service assembles at 10.40am at Winders Park, Duringan Street, Currumbin and leaves at 10.55am, service commencing at 11.15am at the Cenotaph at Currumbin RSL.

Burleigh Heads Dawn Service/Citizens Service
A family-friendly ceremony with a traditional service in Connor Street, starting at 4.28am sharp. The march assembles at 4am in front of the newsagent in Connor Street, departing at 4.15am.
The Citizens’ Service starts assembling at the western end of James Street at 9.15am, march is commencing at 9.30am, service starts at 10.00am (approximate) at Burleigh Heads War Memorial Park.

Coolangatta Dawn Service/ Citizens Service
The march assembles on the pathway behind Chris Cunningham Park at 5.45am with the march off at 5.55am. A gunfire breakfast will be available from Twin Towns Services Club after the service. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased in advance from the Tweed Heads & Coolangatta RSL Sub Branch Office.
From 10am the march assembles in Jack Evans Boat Harbour with the march off at 10.35am and Children’s Parade at 10.25 (next to Children’s playground). Service will be held at approximately 11am.

Surfers Paradise RSL Dawn Service/Citizens Service
Fall-in outside the Surfers Paradise RSL on Beach Road at 5.15am to march to The Esplanade, Surfers Paradise Beach (opposite Trickett Street) for the dawn service at 5.30am. Following the service, a gunfire breakfast will be served at the RSL.
The noon parade will fall-in on The Esplanade, from Soul to Elkhorn Avenue from 11.30am. The march will commence at noon and continue along The Esplanade, turn right in Cavil Mall and continue through Surfers Paradise to the Cenotaph in Cavill Park, Cavill Avenue (at rear of Surfers Paradise RSL) for the Civic Service at 12.30pm.

ANZAC Day events

ANZAC Day at Kirabelle Kitchen
After paying your respects at a nearby service, why not visit Kirabelle Kitchen for a game of Two-up in the Alley Bar from 2pm.  Two-up is a game in which coins are spun in the air and bets are laid on whether they fall on heads or tails. The game originates from the First World War where two-up was played in the trenches and on troop ships. Kitchen will be open for lunch from 11am, tab facilities from 12pm and the sports bar opens at 1pm.

ANZAC Day at Miami Tavern
Live music, sport and great Aussie pub food! Get in and checkout Collingwood Football Club take on Essendon Football Club on the big screen. Get the famous $10 parmy and pot or just a nice ice cold pint. Live music in the arvo, bring your dancing shoes.

ANZAC Movie on the Green
Enjoy a twilight outdoor movie on Australia’s best bowls club green! Club Helensvale has partnered with the Gold Coast Film Festival to celebrate our ANZAC history with a special 30th anniversary screening of the classic Australian film, The Lighthorsemen. The Lighthorsemen is set in 1917 and captures the heroic efforts of the Australian light horse regiment involved in the Battle of Beersheba.
When: Saturday, 29th April, from 6pm

2017 Mateship Run
The 2017 Mateship Run is held on Sunday, 30 April, to commemorate and recognize the Australian Defence Force in a healthy fun activity while raising funds as a community to support ‘Soldier On’.
