Our favourite day of the year is here! It’s National Donut Day and can we get a hallelujah. Finally, a day dedicated to eating the best food on earth.

The day was created by The Salvation Army during the Great Depression in 1938 to honour the women (also known as Dough Lassies) who volunteered to serve donuts to soldiers in World War I and to help raise funds for those in need.

Since then, the sugary treats have come a long way and, to this day, are a crowd-pleaser and morale booster. To make sure you get your donut fix, here are the best ones to be found on the Gold Coast:

Providore, Marina Mirage
The team at Providore Marina Mirage have won best breakfast on the Gold Coast for the second year in a row and we like to think that their mouth-watering selection of freshly baked donuts is the reason. The deli is stocked with fresh pastries baked onsite daily including Nutella filled cronuts, a mix between a croissant and a donut, the original donut and twisted donuts.

Blackboard Coffee, Varsity Lakes
The guys at Blackboard Coffee got behind the donut craze early on in the game and brought us the injectable donut, a syringe filled with a delicious salted caramel sauce stuck in a donut – yum! The best thing about it? You get to inject the gooey caramel sauce yourself. But be warned, they usually sell out early!

Krispy Kreme, Pacific Fair
It’s safe to say that anyone who loves donuts has dabbled in a Krispy Kreme. After all, they are the top dogs amongst the donuts. To celebrate National Donut Day in style, Krispy Kreme have teamed up to launch limited edition Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme donuts that will make all your sweet dreams come true. Get ‘em while they’re sugary.

All-Time Coffee, Mermaid Beach
This little gem, tucked away along the Gold Coast Highway in Mermaid Beach, is a vegan paradise. Make it a thing this Donut Day and go visit Elle and Ben for some VEGAN donuts. There’s Nutella, Fairy Bread or *drumroll* Tiramisu donuts (a fried dough ball with a layer of espresso infused chocolate in the middle then topped with creamy frosting and cocoa) Woah!!

Skull and Bones Espresso Boutique, Mermaid Beach
It seems like Mermaid Beach is donut heaven and to make your decision even harder we introduce you to Skull and Bones’ take on the humble donut – the bronut, a mix of brioche and a donut. Those scrumptious treats are filled with a variety of different fillings like Nutella or caramel.

Paddock Bakery, Burleigh Heads
When you think of Paddock Bakery, donuts will definitely cross your mind. No wonder, they make some of the best on the Coast! Get there for baby Nutella bots (tiny donuts filled with Nutella), vanilla malt milkshake donuts or their signature donut filled with salted caramel and topped with a pretzel cookie crumble!

Flour of Life Bakery, Miami
People of the plants rejoice, these amazing folks make all the baked goods without all the gluten, meat, dairy and egg bits. That’s right friends, it’s donut heaven without all the meaty bits. We have it on good authority (ours) that the donuts are absolutely next level and pretty as an Insta picture too.
