Luckily, the Gold Coast is an absolute hive of activity throughout summer so we’ve rounded up a slew of activities to keep the little ones entertained for $7.50 or less.

DECEMBER
 

13th – Schools Out Youth Radio
Take over the mic and jam out as you learn how to produce a live radio show and podcast in the Media Lab. Suitable for teens. From 10.30am – 12.30pm.

13th – Game On mini-Commonwealth Games
Embrace the excitement and enthusiasm of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games with basketball, boxing, hockey, netball, rugby 7s and athletics. Become part of a team where you’re assigned a country, given a headband in your country’s colours and a flag to take to each station. Countries will then compete against each other at the finale. From 8.30am to 10.30am. Where: Albert Waterways Community Centre, Cnr Hooker and Sunshine Boulevards, Broadbeach

13th to the 18th – Make pom pom Christmas decorations
Create beautiful pom pom decorations using smart wrapping and counting techniques.

Learn from some of the best coaches in the business. Workshop designed for beginners starting out in the world of skateboarding. Bring your own board and helmet, or equipment supplied for 15 participants. From 9am to 10am. Where: Runaway Bay Skate Park

15th – Nature’s art and craft
Come along to find natural materials to create your own works of art. Combine seedpods, leaves, twigs, fronds and other wonders of nature to make something special. All materials supplied from the gifts of nature. Please wear closed in shoes, a hat and bring a drink bottle. From 9am to 10am and 10am to 11am. Where: Benowa – book online.

15th – Have a go circus
Cool off, enjoy the sea breeze and relax after a hot day with some family time. Let the kids burn off some energy, whilst learning circus skills. There will be hula hooping, juggling, sticks, poi, diablo and more, come and be part of the Circus Tribe. From 4pm to 6pm. Where: Harley Park, Marine Parade, Labrador

19th – Botanica Children’s Discovery Trail
Come and explore the Mangroves to Mountains Trail. Collect items, observe and record plants and animals and find answers to the quiz. Presented by Friends of Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens. From 9am to 10.30am. Where: Benowa – book online. 

JANUARY

4th – Marine Biologist Field Day
Be a marine biologist for a day and learn what is in­volved in their day to day job! Ask our in-house marine biologist questions about our mini marine life and mangroves, learn to dig a turtle nest and investigate micro-organisms under a microscope! From 9am to 12pm. 5th to 17th – Geometric Craft
Discover the world of geometric shapes and create a beautiful geometrical artwork. Suitable for ages 6-12 years.

8th– Dancer’s day out
Come and join us for a day of dance, stretch, technique, performance coaching, mock auditions, goal setting and more. Dancing is about more than learning moves. During this workshop you will find your strengths, learn to use them and set realistic goals to improve generally. From 8.45am to 2.45pm. Where: Miami Primary School, Oceanic Drive, Mermaid Waters

 

8th – Game On boredom busters
Escape the heat with some indoor summer fun. Sparky’s popup playground will keep kids aged 2-12 years busy for hours with Sparky’s good old- fashioned games and activities – parents are welcome to join in. Design your own unique spiral tie dye tote bag with Shoshana. Or bring your own pre-loved washed white garment (eg. T-shirt) and tie dye that.

When it’s time to get active again, POW Martial Arts will teach you fun and easy to learn self defense skills, including chops, strikes, blocks, jumps and spins with Tai kwon-do. From 9am to 11am. Where: Upper Coomera Community Centre, 90 Reserve Road, Upper Coomera

 

9th – Sparky’s popup playground

Awesome activities and games best suited for kids 2-12 years. Develop coordination and confidence in a relaxed and supportive environment while having heaps of fun. From 9am to 11am. Where: Burleigh Waters Community Centre, Christine Ave, Burleigh Waters

16th – What bird is that?

Learn to identify the many species of birds that live at the Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens. Take part in a survey and take home your own bird identification booklet. Cost is $5 per child. 23rd – Woven bracelets

Learn a simple weave and create a colourful bracelet. Suitable for teens. From 3.30pm to 4.30pm. Where: Southport City Library, Garden & Lawson Streets, Southport
