Being the day before Friday used to be the best thing about Thursday, until cheap eats was born that is.

In the name of saving pennies but still extracting yourself from the couch for a night out pre-weekend, we found a few places to get some cheap grub.

Please hold while we point out that pretty much all Mexican joints on the Gold Coast offer some form of taco Thursday situation which also involved margaritas so double win. There’s a list of those here.

Mr PP’s Deli & Rooftop Bar
Not only stunning views and plenty of good vibes, Southport’s Mr PP’s is serving up $5 cheese tasting boards and two for one pizzas on Thursday’s. There’s also fun times in the form of trivia so gather the gang and get involved.

Aloha Bar & Dining
The tropical little tiki bar is serving up the goods every day of the week but on Thursday’s it’s half price taco Thursday. Plus, their cocktails are some of the very best around.

BonBon Bar
It’s taco Thursday so head to your favourite Mermaid Mexi joint for $5 tacos and a guaranteed good time.

Get in on the action with a burger, fries and a beer, cider or wine for only $15. That’s a doozy of a deal. Plus, you get to sit amongst the greenery and watch the world go by.

The crew at Apres Surf have a special on every weekday so you can save many shiny pennies. On Thursday it’s $10 delicious Après Chicken Parmi Burger with bacon, basil and special sauce.

The team at Bine Beer Bar are bringing the goods with a chicken parmy and beer tasting paddle for $15. If you aren’t full by the time you leave, we’ll eat our hats.

The prettiest of southern spaces, baskk at Kirra Point is serving up $20 pizzas all day long and they are DE-LICIOUS. Wash one down with an icy glass of rose and everything is golden.

Fire Cue Bar & Grill

You’ll be running over hot coals to get a taste of this one.

With the Coast’s restaurant scene well and truly booming, it’s hard to think how anyone could make it any better? Then in steps Adam Dundas-Taylor, owner of Fire Cue Bar & Grill, the new “hottest” spot in Nobby’s.

Travelling all the way from Bali, home to Adam’s Barbacoa Restaurant, the love for charcoal grill and fun times has now been shared with the Gold Coast. A tapas bar which offers Latin American, Mexican, Spanish and Argentinian inspired food, zesty cocktails, tap beers from Gold Coast locals and smooth tunes.

The inside of Fire Cue is mysterious yet inviting, a concrete look wall with golden metallic highlights (guaranteed you will want to run your hands over it), contrasted by two colour washed walls giving the narrow space a unique edginess. Choose between high tables and stools or a sleek burgundy leather lounge. Exposed lighting hangs from copper piping and a warm glow emanates from the neon “Fire Cue” that sits behind the bar. It doesn’t stop here though, make your way past the kitchen and up the stairs to another bar, brightly coloured walls, communal and high tables and lush greenery that sits on the open rooftop. Upstairs is the perfect location if you want to enjoy the fiery flavours exclusively.

Things are definitely heating up in the Fire Cue kitchen too. The meat of the night is cooked over charcoal in a parrilla barbecue grill for eight hours which ensures you aren’t going to miss out on any of the mouth-watering flavour. The menu offers a variety of delicious choices; Pork Spare Ribs in a chipotle and agave glaze, Fire Cue’s own style Spicy Snapper Ceviche with aji amarillo dressing, Lamb Empanadas, pulled lamb, goats cheese, cumin and green olive, Grilled Corn (you won’t be able to stop at one) served with chipotle mayo, cheese, smoked spice and lime… too much to choose from already? The menu is designed to share, which means you have a totally valid excuse to have one of everything!

Same applies for those with a sweet tooth, order an individual dessert such as the White Chocolate and Honeycomb Ice-cream Sandwich, or try a Dessert Tasting Plate instead, which is going to give you all the good stuff. Speaking of good stuff, it’s important to know that these guys are also offering a $5 Taco Tuesday!

New: Wildernis Bar & Restaurant

Wildernis Café and Bar will soon add rooftop hotspot to their name with the opening of their latest venture, you guessed it, a rooftop-style space overlooking the ocean and bringing a whole new level of cool to Palm Beach.

A Mediterranean-inspired space with wide windows opening out to reveal the beach below, tons of natural light flooding in from every direction (including the retractable roof) and a secret laneway, Wildernis Bar and Café is the Coast’s new go-to for communal dining and cocktails.

Owners Josh and Andy have completely transformed the once dark, cramped space, installing skylights, Spanish tiled floors and a custom built bar perfect for watching the sun set and soaking up the sea breeze.

Serving up large share plates and signature cocktails, Wildernis Bar & Restaurant is the epitome of the laidback Palm Beach vibe you know and love, with a touch of style thrown in for good measure.

Four signature cocktails will be made fresh daily – think Watermelon Margaritas and Blueberry Amaretto Sours – along with more varieties of Espresso Martinis than you could ever imagine.

To eat, don’t go past the European-style Cured Meat Board, Fresh Oysters Three Ways and Szechuan Peppered Squid. Everything on the menu is made from locally sourced goods, further enhancing the community vibe of the venue.

There’s no doubt Wildernis Bar and Restaurant is set to bring a fresh new feel to the already thriving Palm Beach foodie scene.
