13 Cooly must do's

You might be dropping into the little beachside town of Coolangatta to see surfing legends Mick Fanning, Kelly Slater or John John Florence for the annual Quiksilver Pro or ... maybe you're just looking for a day out. Apart from people watching and all the glitz and glamour of the Pro, there's a load of other stuff to do in Cooly, here's a reminder.

1. Start your day with brekky at That Blue House
Cooly's newest edition is That Blue House, literally a big blue house on Dutton Street just a 200 metre walk from the beach. It's the ideal spot to satisfy your iced coffee and eggs on toast cravings, they're also open for lunch.

2. Get a pie from the Coolangatta Pie Shop
This iconic Gold Coast pie shop has been around for over 50 years!  What we love most about them? They're open 24/7 on weekends.

3. Grab a coffee at Larder
Conveniently located on Cooly's main strip, the guys at Larder brew up utilising the Gold Coast's own Blackboard roasted coffee. They also serve breakfast, lunch and injectable doughnuts!

4. Eat a burger at Eddie's Grub House
Rock 'n Roll meets fried chicken, burgers and whiskey. Get a mouthful of American classics in this soul food dive bar. Need we say more?

5. Drink a beer at the Cooly Hotel
The Cooly Hotel is a must do! This iconic bar, located right on the strip is well known for its world class live music and great vibes. Keep your eyes peeled, as there's always something going on during the Quikie Pro.

6. Take a stroll through The Strand
The freshly refurbished Coolangatta Strand mall is a great respite from all the action at the beach. Filled with shops, dining and entertainment, it also offers a great second level view.

8. Grab a parmi and a pint at the Coolangatta Sands Hotel
What's known as 'The Sands' amongst the locals is another great watering hole. Recently renovated, check out their new restaurant Kirabelle Kitchen for a great classic pub meal.

9. Scoop your way through all the flavours at Gelato Messina
This famed gelateria chose Coolangatta for its only Queensland location. Lines can be long, but the wait is well worth it. All the gelatos are made lovingly in-house, using ingredients in their raw and most natural form.

10. See and be seen at Hotel Komune
Want to party with the Pro's? Hotel Komune is definitely the place to be. Their pool parties are legendary so don't forget your togs!

11. Shop local at Cooly's Beachside Markets
On Sunday 12th March between 8am and 2pm Queen Elizabeth Park comes alive with plenty of local traders selling anything from raw produce to clothing and accessories.

12. Have a Mexican siesta at Beach Burrito
This family run Mexican cantina serves tasty tacos and thirst quenching margaritas in a funky setting opposite the beach. Celebrate with the local art, music, surf, skate and snow communities who love this hangout.

Pop into this tucked away gallery for fresh local art run by proud Cooly local Byron Coathup. You're sure to find a sweet locally designed souvenir to take home.
