In honour of International Beer Day tomorrow, we’ve made the ultimate list of the Gold Coast’s best beer bars, bottoms up!
1. Fortitude Brewing Company
Fortitude Brewing Company is special because they brew under not one, but two names. Fortitude for the dependable beers you enjoy with mates and Noisy Minor for the loud beers we all love every now and again. Aside from brewing some damn good beers, Fortitude Brewing Company is Tamborine Mountain’s best spot for a Sunday sesh. Enjoy hot gourmet pizzas and enjoy one of the 14 icy-cold Fortitude Brewery beers while you listen to the live band on the patio.
165 Long Rd, North Tamborine
2. Not Tonight
It’s not unusual for this Southport hotspot to be packed! Rolling with a laid back vibe and great beer list, Not Tonight is one of Southport’s coolest bars. Swing in and try one of the 55 bottles of beer in stock (yes you read that right, 50 freakin’ 5 beers!).
50B Nerang St, Southport
3. Surfers Sandbar
It’s no stroke of luck Surfers Sandbar is packed every evening. Being only steps away from the Surfers Paradise beach is great for people watching, but what they really come for is the awesome beer selection. Keeping a mix of local brews and imports on tap plus a huge selection of bottled favorites, plus a few you may not have hear of will make any beer connoisseur happy!
52 The Esplanade, Surfers Paradise
4. House of Brews
The name says it all. House of Brews has a whopping 32 beers on tap! In fact, they have so many kegs, they’ve even got a ‘keg room display’. If you aren’t a beer lover (blasphemy!), just head to House of Brews, they’ll make a beer lover outta you yet!
17 Orchid Ave, Surfers Paradise
5. Bavarian Bier Cafe
Can’t make it to Oktoberfest this year, this is the closest you’ll get on the GC. There is something about those giant glass steins that make you think, ‘oh it’s only one, can’t hurt…right?’. Well if you’re going to have one, may as well make it a big one. Head over to Bavarian Bier Cafe for a tasty beer you can’t pronounce (I’ll have a Löwenbräu..? –insert mangled German pronunciation) and dollar wings Mon-Fri 4-6pm for happy hour!
Charles Ave, Broadbeach
6. Bine Bar & Dining
The Gold Coast’s first craft beer bar, Bine has laid the ground work for many a beer hall to come. Serving over 100 bottled beers and 8 rotating taps, the folks at Bine really know their stuff when it comes to beer. The food ain’t half bad either. $5 slider Mondays anyone?
1/28 Chairlift Ave, Mermaid Beach
7. Black Hops Brewing
What do you get when you mix three mates, a passion for beer and a little know-how? Damn good beer. That’s the story behind Black Hops anyway. This Miami brewery is now open for a cheeky after surf drink and a takeaway shop. Our favourite of their core range is the Beach House, but stop in and see what they have on tap for yourself.
15 Gardenia Grove, Burleigh Heads
8. Burleigh Brewing Co
The first of now many breweries on the Gold Coast, the brewers at Burleigh Brewing have created some essential flavours to create a cult following. Their new digs showcase an impressive setup and beer bar, pop in and taste what the guys at Burleigh Brewing are cookin’. Make sure you don’t skip trying the HEF. This German styled wheat beer won at the 2012 Beer Cup (the Olympics of beer)! “They’ve out Germaned the Germans” we hear.
2 Ern Harley Dr, Burleigh Heads
9. Ze Pickle
Killer burgers and ‘real’ craft beer make Ze Pickle a favourite of most Gold Coasters. Not afraid to put newbies and unusual brews on tap, you’re guaranteed to have something delicious and interesting from their 12 taps that rotate regularly at Ze Pickle.
1/37 Connor St, Burleigh Heads
10. Lester and Earl
Saddle up at this American bar for a damn good plate of ribs and an ice-cold beer. They’ve got 12 on tap and keep their ear to the ground for news of what’s hot (or should we say cold) in the beer world. When you are done taking in all of the rich, ‘Old West’ decor, take your beer out to the patio for typical Gold Coast stunning ocean views.
1097 Gold Coast Hwy, Palm Beach
11. Balter Brewery
Pro surfers (Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Bede Durbidge and Josha Kerr) making beer? Sounds like marketing genius! But is the beer any good? Well the boys at Balter Brewery will be happy to serve you to find out. The Brewery is yet to have a quiet weekend with locals nothing short of losing their s**t over this brewery. So far they are only rocking with the fruity, full-bodied Balter XPA, but keep an eye out, they are set to unveil two more beers in the coming months!
14 Traders Way, Currumbin Waters
