Pancakes On The Rocks in Sydney is an institution.
The restaurant has been around for over 40 years. It’s been a long term family restaurant and now people who grew up on delicious pancakes are bringing their own family to enjoy the pillowy goodness.
Pancakes On The Rocks first opened on the Gold Coast in 2012 at Mermaid Beach. We recently visited their newer Surfers Paradise location to see if it still as good as the original Sydney location.
Upon entry, the large booths and giant windows overlooking the heart of Surfers Paradise catch your eye and make for comfy seating, but are even better people watching.
The full menu is available from 7am, which means if your heart desires a big plate of ribs for breakfast, well it can be yours (no judging here)! They also serve until 10:30pm! Keep that in mind when a late night kebab just wont cut it.
The expansive menu has everything from traditional pancakes, egg and bacon breakfasts, to savoury chicken crepes and everything in-between.
To get a true taste of Pancakes On The Rocks though, we tried the Devil’s Delight pancakes which were three deliciously dense chocolate pancakes topped with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, fresh strawberries, a chocolate drizzle and powdered sugar. Reminiscent of decadent chocolate covered strawberries, they were some of the most delicious pancakes we have ever tasted. Pancakes are obviously the specialty here and we were really impressed. So we also tried the beef ribs which were also served with a generous portion of salad and crispy, hot chips. The bbq sauce was sweet and tangy making these ribs surprisingly delicious for a pancake house (not what we expected!). The last thing we tried was the gourmet Italian pizza, made fresh to order!
