Did you know that every whisky starts off as beer? Fact. And that the Whisky Sour is one of the oldest cocktails on record?
Well, now you know! Whisky or Whisky Sour for that matter is not hipster friendly since it's not gluten free and contains eggs (vegans beware!), but this classic drink is hipper than any Espresso Martini will ever be.
With the Coast's Mad Men fans longing for more cocktail sophistication, we present to you 8 (whisky) bars worth checking out. It's International Whisky Sour day after all..
1. Glass Dining & Lounge Bar, Main Beach
Situated along the waters edge at Marina Mirage, Glass Dining & Lounge Bar has created the ultimate relaxed yet opulent atmosphere for its diners and those wishing to indulge in some yummy as cocktails! Besides the million dollar yacht views, they're home to some of the tastiest whisky concoctions on the Coast, with an impressive list including three different types of whisky sour's.
2. Not tonight, Southport
This cosy lil' bar located in classic Southport is technically a craft beer parlour with over 55 different craft beers on display. But as we established earlier, all whisky must come from beer and Not tonight offer you delicious cocktails and whisky's from around the globe, too. Ever had a 5yr single malt North Queensland whisky before, or a 100% rye whisky from Tasmania?
Definitely worth checking out!
3. Black Coffee Lyrics, Surfers Paradise
Black Coffee Lyrics in Surfers is all about classic cocktails, and what's classier than a good ole' Whisky Sour?! The alley hidden location and dark atmosphere add to the experience and make any whisky taste that little bit better!
4. Torii, Pacific Fair, Broadbeach
Whisky lovers unite, we've got exciting news! Torii, a brand new Japanese-accented restaurant-bar, dedicated to the twin pleasures of yakitori and divine Japanese single malt whisky is opening in Pacific Fair very, very soon! When? We'll keep you posted, we promise!
5. The Loose Moose, Broadbeach
The Loose Moose, better known as The Loose Moose Whisky Bar and Restaurant, is one of the newer editions to Gold Coast's bar scene and we have to say, prepare to be impressed! You know they're serious about their whisky's with self-proclaimed 'Whisky Queen' Billie Jean calling the shots behind the bar. The brick walls are lined with 130 whisky's, 30 rums, 20 gins, 60 bottled beers, plus a large selection of vodka, cognac, tequila, wine and 15 beers on tap. Phew!
6. Etsu, Mermaid Beach
We love Etsu for so many reasons. The fit-out, the food, the atmosphere, but just one more is their huuuge selection of Japanese whisky (one of the biggest in all of Australia to be precise!). What are you waiting for?
7. Cambus Wallace, Nobby's Beach
A bar list wouldn't be complete without Cambus Wallace! This nautical themed drinking hole is known for yummy cocktails, rum and their whiskylicious selection of, well, whisky's! They even dedicated a whole day to whisky, hump day done in style #whiskywednesdays with $15 whisky-glazed pork ribs or angus-cross sirloin and whisky cheese pairing plate, yuuuum!!
8. Eddie's Grub House, Coolangatta
This rock'n roll whisky bar with more than a handful of whisky choices (they've a collection fit for a Tennessee Gentleman) is Cooly's newest hangout for finger lickin’ fried chicken, burgers and, of course, whisky. But wait until you see Eddie's cocktail menu featuring The Sour Hayden: Basil Hayden, fresh lemon juice, agave syrup, peychaud's bitters, and egg whites or Freya's Whisky Breakfast Cocktail: Bacon infused Makers Mark ,apple juice, orange bitters, maple syrup and egg whites, garnished with some crispy maple bacon!!
It's the perfect setting to have a couple!
With so many whisky's to choose from, we recommend you refer to this guy who had a Whisky A Day as a New Year's resolution.
