11 activities to feel like a local on the Gold Coast

Stroll the Village Markets
There’s nothing like a lazy Sunday strolling through these uber popular Burleigh markets, coffee in hand, checking out the locally made goods and sitting on the grass listening to the band. Held every 1st and 3rd Sunday.
Burleigh Heads State School, Lower Gold Coast Highway, Burleigh

Have a paddle at Currumbin Boatshed
The best weekend memories are made on Currumbin Creek. Hire a stand up paddle board for $15 to explore this local’s favourite creek and when you are done, sit along the bank enjoying a cold one from the bar.
1/2-4 Thrower Dr, Currumbin

Cozy up and watch flick at the Yatala Drive In
We know, old school right? Check out the 50’s themed diner while you are there, or bring your own snacks (they do sell deep fried Mars bars though). Don’t forget your blankets and pillows too. Not only is it way more comfy and relaxed than a regular theatre, it’s cheaper too!
100 Stapylton Jacobs Well Rd, Stapylton

Catch a belly laugh at The Arts Centre’s Comedy Night
Did you know weekends at The Arts Centre are seriously funny? That’s right, every weekend some of Australia’s funniest comedians stand up for our enjoyment. There’s a full dinner menu and a bar in the basement too.
135 Bundall Rd, Surfers Paradise.

Eat EVERYTHING at Miami Marketta
Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays, Miami Marketta is the place to be for every type of food you could want, shopping and awesome bands. It’s a true locals hangout and one you won’t want to miss. The secret is out for the weekends, so for a true local’s feed (and less crowds) hit this venue on Tapas Wednesday’s.
23 Hillcrest Parade, Miami

Jump in to the Currumbin Rock Pools
Lucky for us Gold Coasters, winter isn’t really a thing, so taking a dip in the Currumbin Rock Pool is acceptable at least 300 days a year (if not more). The drive is scenic in itself. Don't forget your togs and towel!
Currumbin Creek Rd, Currumbin Valley

Throw a blanket down on Burleigh Hill
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say Burleigh Hill is high on every Gold Coasters ‘fave spots’ list. Bring a blanket and a picnic and settle in for one of the most gorgeous Gold Coast sunsets you can imagine. Don’t forget on Sundays there is usually a jam session for your listening pleasure.
Goodwin Terrace, Burleigh

Enjoy a show at the Spotlight Theatre
Entertaining us for over 60 years, this humble theatre in Ashmore puts on some damn good shows every year, showcasing local talent. With a stellar lineup for the rest of 2016, make sure you grab a ticket asap!
185-187 Ashmore Road, Benowa

Twerk it out at No Lights No Lyrca
It’s a giant dance party in the dark. Shake your tail feather uninhibited in the shadows at this weekly dance party. And technically, I think this can count as your workout for the day/week too!
Burleigh Heads State School, Lower Gold Coast Highway, Burleigh Heads

Break a sweat hiking Mount Warning
Ok technically not one of the Gold Coast activities, but close though. It’s the first place you’ll see the sun rise around here and totally worth the 4am hike (depending on what time of year you go). About midway though you’ll be cursing the idea of the hike, but when you get to the top you’ll realize it was worth every step! But be warned (haha) the 8.8km 5hr hike return and includes a challenging rock climb before reaching the summit.
153 Mount Warning Road, Mount Warning, Gold Coast Hinterland

One of the biggest galleries on the Coast, 19Karen is home to one of the most stunning and avant-garde collections around. And with a warehouse full of art, the pieces are constantly on rotation, making for a unique experience every time.
