Today is Bastille Day, otherwise known as French National Day, otherwise known as eat some French food and cuddle a Frenchie(bulldog or person, your choice) Day.
In France, Bastille Day commemorates the storming of Bastille, which ended a violent two-day revolution in Paris on July 14th 1789 as well as the Fête de la Fédération, which celebrated the unity of the French people on 14 July 1790.
Ok, history lesson over, in honour of Bastille Day (and any excuse to eat croissants), here are 9 totally awesome French Restaurants on the Gold Coast!
- La Porte Verte
Tucked away in Robina, La Porte Verte is as authentic as it gets here on the Gold Coast. If you’re looking for French favourites like escargot, steak tartare or crepe suzettes, this restaurant does it all. The chef recommends lingering in the courtyard dining area for a leisurely meal accompanied by outstanding French wine.
44 Commerce Drive, Robina
- Little Truffle
The original restaurant of Gold Coast super chef Daniel Ridgeway, it’s a top pick for any Gold Coast foodie (and Hugh Jackman last year). Known for incorporating (you guessed it) truffle in his dishes, Daniel’s beef cheek in truffle cream sauce has us drooling already!
As Gastronome Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin said, truffles are “the diamond of the kitchen”!

- Allure on Currumbin
Being number 1 on Trip Advisor is no small feat. This causal elegant restaurant serves a memorable duck a l’orange you’ll be talking about for years. Just make sure you save room for the soufflé.
136 Duringan St, Currumbin
- Bistro on 3
Inspired by France’s most popular bistro classics, Bistro on 3 located in the lush Sofitel Hotel, Broadbeach, is the perfect place to escape this winter for a hearty Wagyu Beef Cheek Bourguignon with a full-bodied wine.

- Le Jardin Café
Nestled along Tedder Ave, recently renovated Le Jardin Café is a Main Beach favourite. Pop in for an afternoon chardonnay and fresh macaroons while enjoying the fabulous French pastime of people watching.
3/13 Tedder Ave, Main Beach
- Le Café Gourmand
You’ve probably driven past it a million times; it’s that little white cottage with the brightly coloured chairs. With a chef that originally hails from France, Le Café Gourmand puts the Ôôôô in omelette! Croque-monsieur, Tartines, Baguettes and Pastries aren’t the only delicacies available at Le Café Garmond, they also have hard to find French groceries for sale.
2545 Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach
- Old Paris
Stop in to Old Paris in Varsity and treat yourself to a Nutella and Banana Crepe. Once you get your hands on one of their chocolate éclairs, you’ll be screaming Ooh la la! You’ll want to grab a baguette for the road too!
Oh and p.s. the quiche is très bien.

- Bam Bam Bakehouse
To the croissant people; Bam Bam are making croissants better than ever with their French Toast Croissant served with bacon, maple syrup and vanilla egg custard. The patisserie at Bam Bam creates some of the most tender and flaky croissants around, not to mention their custard cruffin. Should we go on…?
Check them out for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the weekends.

- Bistro Franc
And to the newest Frenchie on the block, a big bonjour to Bistro Franc, opening their doors for the fist time tomorrow night from 5pm in Broadbeach. Head over for a Bellarose French lager and butter; there’ll be lots of butter…
