Society of Florida

Society of Florida

Tucked away in Florida Gardens (a little island near Broadbeach Waters) is a community based social eating house founded by the creators of Burleigh Social and based on the concept that neighbourhoods need a social meeting place. After proving the idea works with their first restaurant the ever-popular, Burleigh Social (also off the beaten path), only a mere 18ish months later, they are keeping the ball rolling and we are welcoming Society of Florida to the Gold Coast.

The four owners/ friends have used modern decor to create a hip South Beach vibe. The hot ticket item is their Florida feature wall, that reminds us of the original Instagram filters placed over palm trees.  The venue has polished concrete floors, Wooden Collective tables, half dipped and hair pin seating as well as a stunning back-lit bar. This eternal summer fit out will draw any crowd. Given the mix of business people, gym bunnies and walkup locals we saw today.

Curious to see if the food lived up to the Burleigh Social standard, we tasted the Society Benny, Pork Schnitzel Burger and Beet Salad. Owner Ray tells us they try to keep paddock to plate as close as possible, by using locally sourced produce and meats. Something their creative chefs insist upon given their experience at some of the Gold Coast’s most revered restaurants.

I sat with my Editor playing musical plates, as we tried to identify the best dish out of the three. The Pork Schnitzel Burger was made exceptional by the addition of sharp swiss cheese and salty capers. The Mixed Beet Salad had two types of beets, feta, croutons and herb frieze salad. Outstandingly tasty as far as salads go, it’s a dish I will be ordering again. The Society Benny (a personal favourite), is one to keep in mind for your next hangover; A massive croissant holds two perfectly poached eggs, a mountain of bacon and for a sprinkle of health, a little kale.

Their dinner menu served Thursday - Sunday has taken a turn towards the Italian side, you’ll be able to get pork belly, fontina stuffed chicken breast (a house favourite) and a variety of pizzas including our favourite, the roasted mushroom, feta and truffle oil pizza.

Society of Florida is fully licensed (hello Sunday brunch) and has a pretty impressive selection of native beer, wine and spirits.

For dessert, treat yourself with a raw Nourishing by Sally Robbie creation. An Instagram favourite and tasty sweet too.

With more to come, get excited for the addition of a hidden garden seating area.

Open Monday - Thursday 6am - 2pm , Friday - Saturday 6am - late and Sunday 7am - 8pm.
