Yeah buddy, it’s that time of year again, The 4th of July.
While may not be acceptable to light fireworks and party in American flag shorts today you can get behind one of America's favourite pass times - over eating.
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, those red blooded ‘mericans really know what they are doing when it comes to grillin’ up dogs, burgers and ribs.
Here are the Gold Coast’s top American spots. (As chosen by a real, live American, Y’all!)
1. New York New York, Hope Island
Just sighting the words 'Authentic American Steakhouse' makes us salivate (mmm... steak!). At New York New York, they're really big on using quality products and local produce, which makes it kinda healthy, I guess. The fairly simple menu is a pretty damn good representation of what America has to offer, so go check them out at Shop 19 Marina Shopping Village, 10 Santa Barbara Rd Hope Island
2. Hooters, Surfers Paradise
People think Hooters, and they think one thing…chicken wings! ;) The legendary sports bar reached cult status a long time ago and we are happy to welcome them back on the Coast with their new location along the Gold Coast Hwy in Surfers Paradise!
3. Brooklyn Depot, Surfers Paradise
The guys at Brooklyn Depot set the bar high for all the other American eateries on the Coast. This 4th of July celebrate a day early on July 3rd by chowing down on a bourbon glazed beef brisket, good ole’ American corndogs and blueberry cherry cream cheese pies. Wash it down with a Bloody A-Mary-ca their twist on the classic bloody mary.
Where: The 4217 Beach rd, Surfers Paradise
4. Hard Rock Cafe, Surfers Paradise
Every major city's got one, Hard Rock Cafe is the ultimate American restaurant/sports bar. But how many can say their neon guitar sign caught on fire? Yeah, a flaming’ guitar!

Where: Cavill Ave, Surfers Paradise
5. House of Brews, Surfers Paradise
House of Brews might be more famous for their controversial cocktails (yes I am talking about the bong) but their food menu is worth mentioning too! Mac'n' Cheese anyone? Or how about cheesy fries with a side of buffalo wings? Doesn't get more American than that!
Where: 17 Orchid Ave, Surfers Paradise
6. Tribeca NYC, Chevron Island
Well known amongst locals, Tribeca NYC are putting a modern spin on traditional American flavours and keep things real by returning to the states every few months just to keep any food movements in check. Keep an eye on them cause they're known for regular menu changes to keep things on point!
Where: 58 Thomas drive, Chevron Island
7. Obsessions on Chevron, Chevron Island
Pretty much next door is Obsessions on Chevron. They basically re-invented the word junk-food! This is not a place you go to lose weight (you probably gain 2 kg's just by looking at the food). So, if you feel up for the challenge book a table and order the 'Super Saijan V2' Burger, consisting of six hand pressed Wagyu patties, six rashers of bacon, liquid cheese and bbq sauce and bacon jam. You have 25 minutes, aaaaand go!
Where: 37 Thomas Dr, Chevron Island
8. The Loose Moose, Broadbeach
This brand new and super trendy American eatery (yes it has a moose head, but it’s not Canadian) located in Broadbeach promises 'dirty food made clean' (say what?!). So if you've been craving Buffalo Wings or some other naughty American indulgence, go crazy and keep a relatively clear conscience. Another Loose Moose selling point is their extensive bar selection, offering 130 whiskeys, 30 rums, 20 gins, 60 bottled beers, plus a large selection of vodka, cognac, tequila, wine and 15 beers on tap!
Where: Oasis Shopping Centre, Broadbeach
9. Easy Street Diner, Mermaid Beach
The team at Easy Street changed the American food game big time! Besides the super cool and Instagram worthy all American diner interior, the food is so good (editors pick in fact), you'll be back for more! It's THE hangover hangout (they even do take away if the couch is calling) and are usually super busy even on a Monday. Food wise, they've got it all, from Mac'n'Cheese to burgers to fried chicken (yes, even fried chicken with waffles and maple syrup).
Where: 2563 Gold Coast Hwy, Mermaid Beach
10. Ball Boy, Mermaid Beach
This funky little meatball joint is ahead of the game, as meatball bars are all the rage in NYC right now. The eye catching pop-modern décor is reminiscent of American locker rooms. The best thing on offer is the ‘school tray’ option, literally a school tray full of delights that give you the chance to try a bit of everything. Another quirky trait is they only serve beer out of cans.
Where: 2475 Gold Coast Hwy, Mermaid Beach
11. Woodchoppers Inn
It's a favourite amongst Mudgeeraba locals and once you've tasted their smoked meat, it'll be yours too. The smoked brisket is a must-eat along with the pulled pork burger. All the meat is smoked for anywhere from 8 to 12 hours using traditional flavours and it is melt-in-your-mouth goodness.

15. Eddies Grub House, Coolangatta
All marinated in blues and rock n’ roll, Eddies Grub house is the go to spot for a killer burger or fried chicken in Cooly and plays the smoothest soundtrack of any bar around. While you are there, pick up an order of the Texas chilli cheese fries and don’t forget to taste your way though their impressive whisky collection.
