Helm Bar - three outdoor patios, two bars, one awesome menu. What else could you ask for? Oh, for the patios to have waterfront views? Yeah, they have that too…
Inside Gold Coast checked out a long time Surfers Paradise favourite, Helm Bar and Bistro.
Helm Bar boasts some of the best real estate of any restaurant on the Coast. Tucked in to the banks of the Nerang River in the heart of Surfers Paradise, there is barely a spot in the house that doesn't have a waterfront view (better bring your sunnies!).
The building is broken up into two main spaces. First is the lounge room/bar area. It’s a light and airy space filled with pops of colour and nautical themes. it’s also HUGE. They take good advantage of that space by adding a stage and playing live music several nights a week. With the ample space, you’ll plenty of room to get your groove on! Once you work up a sweat, head over to the expansive bar to get a little something to wet your whistle. We tried the Helm Signature Margarita. The salty lime mix made our tongues twist with every sip. Here at Inside Gold Coast, we love a margarita that bites back!
The two open-air decks make for a great spot to grab an afternoon drink and soak up a little sunshine while you watch the boats float past (Get ready to raise a glass to all the tourists on the river boat cruises!).
Hidden away from the bar is a betting room, if that tickles your fancy. Several TVs hang from the walls to ensure you get to see whatever event makes your heart race (News Caster Voice: Please gamble responsibly).
Moving through to the bistro, you’ll see that Helm has kicked it up a notch with it’s nautical theme. Thick rope and glass buoys dangle above dining tables while life rafts and wooden fish hang from the walls. For the off chance you grab a table without a river view, the open plan kitchen allows for a peak into the chef’s world.
You can take advantage of the bistros designated bar as you relax on the large shaded patio with a river view.
When you are ready for a feed, the menu has a bit of everything. The Inside Gold Coast recommendation is the seafood tower. 3 levels of decadence. Feast on mud bugs, prawns, oysters, soft-shell crab, calamari, salmon, salad and chips. It’s the perfect meal for an afternoon on the water. If for some crazy reason you aren't feeling the seafood extravaganza, they offer all the pub favourites. Grab a burger, pizza, or treat yourself to one of the smoke house dishes. No matter what you choose, it’s going to be good!
If you will be honouring ANZAC Day with a few drinks this Sunday and recovering on Monday, Helm Bar is the place to be.
The Hanlon Brothers will be rocking the stage and singing all your favourite hits (gotta love those Hanlon Brothers)!
Grab a drink, chill out on the deck, nibble on a pub meal, listen to some live music. It’s the Helm Bar way!
