Us Gold Coasters are no strangers to the BiN family. Their rapidly expanding restaurants are taking over all the hottest locations and I think we are all happy about it!
Outstanding food and beautiful decor- keep em’ coming please!
I had myself a cheeky little lunch at BiN 89 this week. (By little I mean huge, I ate everything)
There wasn't one dish that I didn't like.
Let’s start with the atmosphere. The front of the restaurant faces the people watching Surf Parade and expands to their open, yet separate-from-the-sidewalk patio.
The patio has a mix of high top tables and low tables to suit your preference and is all under cover, so rain or shine this outdoor area will be the prime position.
Inside, on the right, is a bar that spans the length of the restaurant and with plenty of barstools. For you folks that love a good belly up to the bar, you’ll feel right at home! The bar is accented with with dark wood, copper and mirror.
The restaurant has a mix of table heights or maybe you prefer a plush and stylish booth!
A private dining room is available at the back of the restaurant featuring a beautiful wine display. Tempting indeed!
We started with two delicious cocktails, the Jinga Ninja, with citrus, ginger, lychee and basil. (I know that sounds like a lot of flavours but it was mild and nice) And A Kracken Good Time. Reminiscent of a ginger lemon tea, It actually tasted like it was good for you. (and I’ll stick with that; good for you cocktails- I like!)
Our lunch started with the Betel Leaf White Fish ceviche tacos. They were incredibly fresh and still had the essence of old Mexico that you crave with a taco. Although it was hard to pick, after tough deliberation, I’m going to say this was my favourite dish of the day.
We followed the tacos with Sake cured Ocean Trout. With its mildly sweet undertones, it was refreshing and light.
We moved on to a classic with a twist. Smoked Buffalo Mozzarella and Tomato salad.
Always a favourite, but the smoked mozzarella made this usually light dish tip-toe to the savoury side! A nice and unexpected pop!
From there, we had Beef Carpaccio dressed with Smoked Beef Tartar.
It was beautiful! The thinly sliced beef was so tender! It was topped with gherkin pickles which gave it a nice sweet crunch. It was delicate and delicious!
I’ll have to take moment to say that everything was presented exceptionally too. Each plate was a work of art. I could tell the chef really took pride in each dish being given to a customer. (Thanks Chef!)
Although we were pretty close to full by now, we continued on.
Spinach Gnocchi. It was a simple dish but rich in flavour. The Gnocchi was tender but not overly mushy (hallelujah) and the rosemary sprigs and truffle cheese gave it a rich full flavour. It was a dish so good that we kept eating long after we had had enough. Oh and I mustn't forget, there were a few rocket leaves on top that gave every other bite a kick. It was a nice touch.
Keeping this lunch train rolling, we went on to Confit Chicken Rilletts. I can best describe them as a chicken crab cake. Chicken cooked in its own juices, shredded then rolled into a cake. It was topped with mushrooms and came with a mustard creme sauce on the side. The mustard really brought this dish to life by highlighting the chicken with a strong kick.
I know, you are probably full just reading this blog, but we aren't done yet!
We finished the savoury portion of our lunch with the Sangria Brased Beef Cheek.
Oh man! Tender tear-apart beef, sat atop a swirl of mashed potatoes and a jus. If that doesn't have you drooling, it was also topped with a citrus herb salad.
A total mouth pleasing delight!
We had two more cocktails to try before dessert. The First Taste of Love, a Bacardi strawberry, lime and sparkling wine concoction. Tasty and light. We also tried the Passionfruit Mojito. A classic mojito with the added tastes of sour and fruity customary of the passionfruit.
For the grand finale, we had Vanilla Pannacotta with Rhubarb Compote and caramel salted popcorn crumble. This is literally indescribable, please just go and try it for yourself. See if you can figure out how they get the popcorn so fine!
