Beating the heat is a proving to be a tough thing to do this summer. In the search for relief, I took a drive through the lush Currumbin Valley to the Currumbin Rock Pools.
As I drove inland from Palm Beach, it only took about 10 minutes or so for the hustle and bustle of the coastline to fade away. The narrow 2 lane road took me under enchanting canopies formed by dense greenery and the deeper I got into the valley, the more picturesque every mile became.
It wasn't long until I had arrived at the Rock Pools. I parked on the side of the road and headed down the stairs to get a better look. The pool was set alongside a trickling waterfall fed from Currumbin Creek. On the far side of the pool was a rock face swimmers could climb then jump into the pool, and the banks were scattered with blankets for families and friends relaxing and having bbq’s.
I was a bit intimidated that I couldn't see the bottom of the pool, but other people were swimming so I figured it would be fine. I climbed onto a rock face and jumped in. AHHHHHHHH sweet relief! The fresh water was a nice change to the usual salty ocean water. Once I took the plunge I was not scared anymore. It was so refreshing! Nice and calm, I floated on my back looking at the sky thankful for this oasis out of the heat. Once I cooled down, I made like a lizard and soaked up the sun on the hot rocks. Getting back to nature never felt so good!
So pack up the cooler and hit the road! Beautiful landscape, relaxing picnic areas, and cool crisp water is just a short drive up Currumbin Creek Road!
