The Gold Coast has its own little Christmas Wonderland and IT'S in Upper Coomera!
The folks on Forest-Oak Drive have made Santa proud with their brilliant Christmas light display!
The dazzling lights on over a dozen houses lit up the street where Gold Coast families gathered to admire the christmas cheer and beauty.
How was it you ask? Spectacularly festive and well worth the trip!
Traffic was hectic. I parked about a 7 minute walk down the road. I think that was the way to go, I believe walking was faster than waiting in the traffic jam. Traffic was a cluster!
As I approached Forest-Oak Drive the WOW factor kicked in pretty hard. People were everywhere and all smiles!
It was “snowing” at the first house we admired. It was so cool and the kids were having a ball. The excitement rivalled christmas morning. Even The Grinch couldn't fight off a crooked little smile if he were here!
Music filled the street and I wanted to see which house it was coming from. I saw a large group gathered and headed in their direction. As I walked toward the group I couldn't help but notice every house had something fun to see. Manger displays, larger than life trees, Santa, reindeer, trains, you name it it was there and sparkling!
The closer I got to the music I could see how the lights had been set to match the music. Something I had previously only seen on the internet, I have to say, it’s way better in real life!
To quote the little boy addressing the crowd, “This is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen, and this is my favourite house!”
I have about 20 something years on this kid and with my 20 something years of added experience I’m happy to tell you that his statement was true. It was HANDS DOWN THE MOST ENTERTAINING CHRISTMAS LIGHT DISPLAY I’ve seen in real life. (I think it’s approbate to add that I am American. I’m used to over-the-top light displays, and this still rocked!)
As I moseyed down the road, I couldn't help but to be drawn in by the delicious smells. A fat kid at heart, the sweet smell of fairy floss slightly masked by the buttery smooth popcorn had me hooked from yards away. Nothing says happy holidays like junk food right?!
In true holiday spirit, even the fairy floss lit up! Hidden in a web of pink sugar was a blinking light. The perfect edition to an already sparkling night!
Carefully dodging little hands holding enormous fairy floss puffs, My popcorn and I continued on our walk though the “winter” wonderland.
The meticulously placed lights adorned several more houses until we reached the last big display.
I would call it Barbie’s Christmas Dream house, but the lady next to me simply labeled it as elegant. Pink and white lights lit up the yard where children weaved in and out of every major display. The coolest part of this display was that Santa himself was in the window eating cookies. (For my non believers it may have been a hologram, but for me and the the kids it was him!!)
It took me about an hour to enjoy all the sites on the Forest-Oak Drive Winter Wonderland, but if I had kids it would have easily been two. Popcorn and fairy floss weren't the only things to munch on, coffee, ice cream and gelato were also available.
Friends, families, puppies, Scrooges - anybody would have a nice time here!
I HIGHLY suggest you add this to your holiday to-do list.
